Who here has used a linear compensator or blast forward device on an AR-15 (mine is in 5.56)? Which ones do you have experience with and which ones work well? I’m won’t give money or info to the government for a suppressor, so unless the Texas law works out sometime - I will be limited to these options.
Thanks!
I have used the Noveske Pig. It works well and actually has a single baffle in it. It’s heavy though.
My favorite comp is the BRT Covert Comp. At $50, it is hard to beat.
Hmmm the BRT looks an awful lot like a 5/8 deep socket… wonder if I could put a thread on that thing?
(just kidding)
An impact socket would be pretty cool and could probably hold up to the pressure
Josh beat me to it
13/16 spark plug wrench is almost the exact size - weighs 4.4 ounces and outside diameter of about 1.1 inch
3.25 in long
Indian Creek makes a very innovative BFD where the mount is secured between your brake and the barrel. So when you prefer the brake…you can take the BFD off in a few seconds….but if you don’t want to blast the people on the left and right of you….you can screw it on in a few seconds ….without removing the brake. You get the best of both…without sacrifice…… plus that Indian Creek BFD is not expensive.

KAK makes a pretty cool flash can. I got the 5” slim line model on a 7.5” 5.56 pistol and it looks pretty slick. Also have a Kaw Valley 3.25” Magnum Linear Comp on a 10.5” 5.56 pistol that works well and looks good.
Paid about $40 for each.
I’m thinking the Flaming Pig will go on my next pistol build.
Please tell us - which is more bearable?
The 7.5" barrel with 5" of can - or - the 10.5" with 3.25" can?
They each come out about equal overall length - so for maneuverability about the same.
This is the one I’m curious about - it’s more of a flash hider. They have several threadings available - thinking for a new AR-300blk with 10" barrel. Someone on PSA Product forum posted the link a while back: https://ak-builder.com/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=30405
The longer one will be more reliable and have better accuracy.
@GuitarGuy is right on that. The 7.5" is just a bit short to really be effective out past 50 yards. For a truck gun, it’s fine, but if I want to reach out and touch someone I’ll defer to at least 10.5" or longer.
Also, the 7.5" is a royal pain to dial in. The pistol length gas system definitely needs an adjustable gas block or a heavy spring and super heavy buffer weight. It’s not really comfortable to shoot with either the short or longer device. Fun, but after a couple of mags, it’s enough. Fireballs are pretty impressive with cheap ammo, though.
Either works well on the 10.5; the only reason I have the shorter one on the longer barrel is because the wife likes how it looks on that gun. Both of them are far superior to just having a bird cage/A2 device up front.
I’ll upload some pics when I get home this evening.
To me it was a decision of what I am going to use the weapon for. I have a 5.56 8.5” barrel pistol with the kaw valley compensator on it. Yes it is loud and a lot of muzzle blast to the side and a fireball with the linear compensator on it. It is a truck gun that goes in a bag for the day the zombie apocalypse or the SHTF day happens. I have other weapons to use to reach out and touch some one.
As a side note it is a blast to shoot when I put the CMMG 22LR conversion in.
I ran a BFD on my KS-47 until I received my suppressor.
You get the best of both worlds….use your brake as needed…or screw on your BFD to shield everything /everyone from the muzzle blast.
I’m using this on two different 5.56 barrels - a 16” and 10.5”. It works as well as any much more-expensive attachment.
I got these awhile back, paid about $10-less than the current price. Exceptional Deal at ~$20, decreasing exceptionalism as the price comes closer to others on the market.
that looks sharp! Literally!
I got one of those “zombie slayer” muzzle devices and slapped it on my 7.5" pistol. Looked cool as anything. I fired about half a mag and had to stop. my dumb ass didn’t look past the cool forward tines to notice the blast ports faced backwards…you can imagine full .223 blast coming back at ya on a 7.5"-er…blackened left hand and forearm, beard singed a bit…
