AKV Muzzle Devices

Hello everyone,

I’m reading and researching up on muzzle devices compatible with the AKV. As far as I’m aware it’s threaded in 1/2x28 and has the typical AK detent to hold a device in place, albeit with a bit of wiggle.

9mm isn’t so uncontrollable as to warrant an aggressive brake for my needs, but for shooting indoors I think tossing on a linear comp/flash can would make it pretty comfortable. Obviously PSA sells some models on their site with a linear comp that look great, but while that part is currently out of stock does anybody have some experience with an aftermarket flash can or other device that works well with their AKV? Does it have to have a detent in order to be fully compatible, or is there another mounting solution you’ve found? And shout out to anybody from PSA who might have insight on if/when the individual flash cans will be back in stock (and your ALG-EKT triggers, which went out of stock before my very eyes, hahaha)

My own firsthand experience is only tangentially related as it is a 10" KS47 and a 12" PSAK-104. But I tried and will contibue to use a flash can on anything short while the suppressor is unavailable. The difference in concussion and noise is noticeable with ear pro on and its much more pleasant to shoot because of it. Now, I’m a barbarian and can’t be bothered to clean a 2" metal tube, but if you like things to stay shiny, it is one more part to clean.

The 104 has the detent in the combo block that has become purely vestigial at this point. It serves no purpose with my current muzzles.

seconded about the ALG Triggers… i needs one.

I have the Bulgarian 4-piece on my AR-V and KS-47 from AK-Builder.com. A few companies make them, and they hide flash well.

This video demos 3 or 4 muzzle devices during night shooting. They call it the Krink 4-piece. https://youtu.be/qMumsBd13QI

AK-builder makes a few different thread sizes:
1/2x28
5/8x24
14-1 LH W Detents
14-1 Left Hand
24mm Bulgarian
Yugo M85/M92 26mm LH

I use the Kaw Valley Linear Comp on mine with good results (I shoot indoors also). Not overly expensive and they look good.

I put a suppressor on mine, it doesn’t have a detent, but it stays put. No wiggle. I suspect any device should be fine as long as its threads are long enough. Otherwise, it will bottom out and leave some threads exposed.

The kaw valley comps are small enough they don’t even hit the detent when you put them on.

looking good loving the plum there sir… Plum looks GOOOD… you need plum mags like mine… oh also did you put the full plum furniture on it?

Oh I plan to grab a couple plum mags this weekend.

So I tried it a few ways. All plum PSA furniture, then PSA stock and gas block cover but magpul grip and handguard, then PSA stock, gas block cover and grip. I finally settled on what you see; but I believe I will try a different stock in the end - a folder very likely.

as for the furniture… i think id of gone plum all the way around if i were you… but to eaach their own.

The muzzle devices on the original design AKs jiggle in the detent.

Perfectly fine and normal.

Update on the AK-Builder.com product. They have unfortunately received a “cease and desist” order to stop building the Bulgarian 4-piece flash hider. :frowning: I didn’t dig in to who did this to him, but they’re going for about $300 to $500 on GunBroker (he was selling them for $100, which is closer to what they’re worth to build).
I love the flash hider a lot, and I wish I’d bought a few more before all this happened.

I recently purchased a JMAC muzzle brake in 1/2 x 28 with the Alpha thread adapter for my HUXWRX RAD 9. They offer a version in Plan B for other suppressors using the Hub B system.

JMAC makes a blast shield that fits on to it if you choose not to mount a suppressor.

The brake does not utilize the detent, need shims to time it.

Previously used a Kaw Valley fixed mount adapter since HUXWRX is sold out of theirs and the RAD9 does not include one.

The KV adapter was nice and inexpensive, but it had issues with coming loose (with thread locker) because I could not tighten it without damaging the clamping surfaces due to it being made of 6061 aluminum instead of steel (like the JMAC).

I highly recommend the JMAC, build quality is excellent and it works perfectly plus it allows the use of a blast shield or suppressor without having to remove the brake (that looks like the PSA stock unit).

Any issues with this setup?

As long as you check alignment it should be gtg.

It has been running perfectly and fortunately PSA appears to make their barrels/threads concentric according to the alignment rod I used.

Only thing I need to do now is to Rocksett the muzzle brake so it does not come loose.
