My AK-P came with the “mini krink” brake. I like the looks of the “flash can” muzzle device better, but is it ok to install on the AK-P? I understand the pistol needs additional blowback to cycle reliably. Is that right, and is one of these devices better than the other, for this function?

You can always try it and if it doesnt work then resell the flash can. Or, have a spare part that turns into another gun.

I currently switch out between the krink booster psa (has on by default), a 74 style brake(Arsenal clocked at 1150(not 12)), AKP flashcan(PSA), and a manticore brake. As per the flash can - it will operate with the weapon also with no issues I can assure.
Operationally they all work as intended. No issues with cycling with the weapon as delivered.
