Found out the hard way i cant install my huxwrx muzzle device on the ak47 gf3s i have without removing the detent pin that locks the standard slant brake in place(anti rotation). Got it part way on and this pin locked it from rotating before it was up against the shoulder of the barrel. Its held in with a pin but my efforts were fruitless. Not sure which side of the pin to be hitting for starters. Please help
The pin should go all the way in.
And post some pics…
It could if depressed but the issue is there would be no way for me to remove the muzzle device. The holes at the base of it are the right size to let the pin into them so it would get locked in forever with no way to depress the pin to remove. Ibhad a hell of a time getting thr device off and i had some clearance to get a putty knife on the detent pin and slowly try to depress it while i unscrewed the device. I was so glad i could get it off at all
Is it a huxwrx muzzle device for an AK?
Yep lh thread forget the pattern atm but all of their qd muzzle devices have small holes at the base all the way around and it happens to line up with this detent. I contacted huxwrx amd they said i had to remove that detent pin before installing it. They make brakes and flash hiders for their QD supressor line for 556 and 762 in multiple thread patterns. They’ve had the ak threaded muzzle devices for like 69 bucks for a while now guess they arent too popular.
Im wondering…they meant for it to be on the shoulder for suppressor use, why have the notches and tell you to remove the pin?
I believe it’s to allow gases out through the nuzzle device but I’m no engineer. I own the 556 and 762 qd cans and over half a dozen different muzzle brakes and flash hiders of theirs and they all have it. Just ordered a cobalt kinetics one that just came out too and it has the same ring of holes so has to be for gas flow
Theres the cobalt one and one of its pics clearly shows what i mean at the base of the device. Just so happens they fit and line up with a detent on the ak 47.
Send it back.
Jamming a muzzle device against the AK’s front sight is poor engineering practice. The Soviet state paid for drilling the front sight and installing the retaining pin to keep the from sight being loosened by jamming a muzzle device into it.
Removing the AK front sight pin is skilled armorer’s work requiring the proper tools, not something an “operator” should be asked to do. The manufacturer needs to re-engineer the part instead of cutting a left hand thread.
No. The gun shipped as was designed. The issue is the muzzle device.
this.
if anything the muzzle device is to fault. in no way on an AK should you ever have to remove the front flash hider detent button that secures the flash hider from moving or back threading out on its own. Any muzzle device worth 10 cents for an AK would have provisions for that pin to exist and be used just like it should be on the normal AK flash hider. if not, that muzzle device is either a defect or it is plainly not intended for the use on an AK.
thats my .02 worth… ymmv
Idk not a big ak guy i contacted huxwrx and they said remove the detent plunger. What really bugs me is if thats needed why dont they include instructions to do that. What other firearms are threaded m14x1 lh is my question besides an ak47
European made guns.
Whoever said that is giving bad advice. Do not attempt to remove the detent pin on the end towards the barrel, its clocked there for muzzle brake attachment properly, etc.
I’d recommend getting any add on attachments(brakes) from either here on PSA or going to Arsenal which has better machinists (Than Hux) to make things properly and for multiple brake & threading types.
If you are looking for something custom Arsenal can help you out and with a fair value.
Hmm perhaps thats where my issue is then, i assumed the thread pattern was standard for aks but maybe that wasnt their intent with this device. I noticed another device with different thread pitch that says ak in the description or name i forget
Its gotta be a huxwrx device to work with the qd suppressor i just want to put my can on my ak not using it for a better brake etc so idk. At least it was on sale so only out 69 instead of the typical 125 to 150
do you have the ability to post photos of what they’re telling you to take off, and what the muzzle adapter is doing when you put it on and a photo of the muzzle device itself alone? preferably the area that would meet up with the AK itself ?
that would be a big help.
thanks.
For AKs there is multiple thread patterns. 14x1 is one as is 24x1.5 among a couple others.
If they are needing a brake/device to put something ONTOP for their suppressor its an unique design & if you consider the detent pin gets stuck in such a way critically that you need to jimmy it out in very hard/uncomfortable ways, its 100% their design being crap and not you. AKs are meant to be (in relative terms & speaking) simple for modulation regardless of threading.
If you had pics that would help too.
Heres a pic of the devices holes and i started to thread it on. Those holes line up with and fit the detent so if i go another turn or so the detent goes into the hole and i cant screw it all the way on. Im not going to show it locked in because it was a pain getting it off with a putty knife used to depress the detent
