Budget 308 bolt rifle

I’m looking to buy my first bolt rifle in 308 to fill a void in my cabinet.

A 270 is my go to deer rifle but I would also like to have a 308 in the stable.

I’d like to stay in the $500-600 range.

Looking online only it looks like these fall in that price range.

Mossberg Patriot
Remington 783
Savage Axis
Ruger American

  • Edit to add
    Howa M1500
    Weatherby Vanguard
    CZ
    Browning

If you own one of these then I would like to hear your opinion.

Or if something else is recommended then throw it at me. Thanks as always :v:

My daughter has a Savage Axis in .243 Win. It is a great rifle. I would buy in 308 all day long.

I have the Mossberg ATR 100. I’ve used it out to 300 yards and it’s right on target. It’s my go to deer rifle.

I think this is one of those “can’t go wrong” scenarios. I’d buy the one you can get the best deal on and not look back.

You are probably right Don.
At times I can over think things.
I thought the Weatherby was going to be it until I was reading up on the #1 barrel :pensive:

I have a Savage Axis in .308 - it’s a reasonably decent rifle. The stock’s a bit cheap, but the action is smooth and trigger is pretty good. Boyd’s makes several stocks to fit, FYI. Most under two bills.

Found this for $499 plus $100 rebate
How bad can a $399 CZ rifle be?

That rifle hits most of what I want. My only issue is I would likely throw the action in a magpul hunter stock. $250-300 upgrade.

Any thoughts on this one?
On sale for $529.99 + $25 out the door,
and Franchi has a $150 rebate

So…net cost of $405 and in the safe !

Except you need glass, rings, a suppressor, etc.
