PSA has had the p17 at 169 a time or so and I almost bought a spare. Cant say 1 is better than the other but I do have the optic slide and 7 p17 mags is that helps. The wife struggles with iron sights but does great with the CT on the P17. The tx is a good trainer like you mention about controls and handling. The TX22 is g19 size and fits a few holsters, the P17 is smaller and hides well and in a holster is very light and easy to carry All that said the p17 with the solo22 suppressor looks pretty good. lol. good luck with your choice
You’re killing me, Smalls! LOL.
Let me ask you this. With that suppressor, whats the lowest you’ve gotten the noise level down to? IE, is it comparable to say an air rifle or pneumatic staple gun? My interest in getting my first suppressor is in part why I’m shopping around the P17 and TX22. Reason why I’m asking, I have enough property to go shooting in my backyard but I have neighbors across the street. Gun fire would startle them and that noise would be frowned upon. I’ve actually had other neighbors shoot guns and startle me.
Hold your thumb over the back of the slide (not super necessary but keeps the action from making noise) and run some .22 shorts, or whatever those other rounds are that are pretty much primer only. That will keep your sound way down. .22 short in general is way quieter than LR is. Probably not going to feed quite right though. Never tried short in my autos before.
I’ve shot CCI quiet rounds unsuppressed which are around 700 FPS. Its a little louder than an air rifle in my Rossi RS22. They are a bit louder with a slight crack in my Heritage Rough Rider. I’d be interested in trying the 800/900 fps suppressor rounds with a suppressor.
I have a Berna tear gas pistol and it is a lot louder.
My pellet rifle sound is similar to this with subs, and i have used 40 and 45 with no issues.
If it helps, i have a target setup in garage the last few months and I have had no one notice including my gun shot hating dog upstairs.
for .22 pistols, i8 like my 1911 by GSG, and my sig Mosquito wanna be by GSG… both of those pistols really are awesome semi auto’s to run .22 long rifle. I have a heritage Rough Rider for my revolver shooting of .22lr or 22 winmag. It doesnt say it, but i bet the revolver could and would shoot the .22 short without issue. i think any of the autoloaders, would have a hard time trying to load the .22 shorts.
I have a Rossi Pump .22cal rifle, it is marked for .22 short, 22 long, and .22 long rifle. I’ve shot .22 short and .22 long rifle. (.22lr) out of the rifle without issue, however i’ve never shot 22 long out of anything as far as i can remember.
a dagger in .22 would be awesome. I would buy one or two… I think .22 shooting is very important to teach fundamentals to some folks who are hands on learners more than audible learners. .
Any of the revolvers or single shot guns will run shorts. The issue comes down to feeding out of a mag or tube if it’s not designed for it.
you are correct.

Speaking of fundamentals. This has been my experience with the G44 as a training tool for the Dagger, it is very similar to the Dagger in controls, feel and whatnot but a whole lot lighter. All my personal mechanical issues get exposed/magnified with the G44. Trigger press a little off? It gets magnified. Pushing with your support hand? Exposed!
Personally, it’s why I can’t wait for the Dagger 22 to be released. I’ll have the exact same ergos as the Dagger in a lighter platform for training. I always finish with the Dagger. Feel like it makes me a better shooter.
Just my personal thoughts.
