Difficult to 'upgrade' a PSA assembled upper?

Hey, never bought an assembled upper before. I’m looking at the 223 wylde 16in mid length with mlok, CH, BCG all that. Im just wondering if it will be like any other upper in terms of replacing parts like the handguard, barrel, BCG or if PSA does any sort of loctite shenanigans or what have you with some of their parts. Buying from PSA then swapping out parts over time seems like the most feasible way to do things, just want to make sure its a real possibility. Thanks

I have swapped handguards, BCGs, charging handles, forward assist buttons, muzzle devices….

No issues

Haven’t messed with barrels yet…

no shenanigans

Two things…
1.they have been known to use a gorilla on muzzle devices. You will probably need a breaker bar.
2. I believe changing things voids the warranty, so just an fyi on that

Otherwise it all goes together the same way.

Aren’t the barrel nuts on super tight also? Idk, I don’t remember modding my PSAs.

I’ve had no issues removing A2s with normal wrenchs

That I’d like to know……

yeah as GuitarGuy said, they use a gorilla to tighten things… memory serves me right, they have uber tightened barrel nuts before and have been very difficult to get off. Flash h iders are normal and not too bad. Fixed front sight blocks are a ■■■■■ just normally because of tapered pins and having to beat them out. had to use heat on the one i did, vowed to never do another again after that. Gas blocks, never had an issue, normal tightening on the ones that are under the rail.

hope that helps.

Some of mine have had super tight barrel nuts, some have been normal. Personally, none have had tight muzzle devices.

I have broke one OEM Aluminum barrel nut , when tightening “just a little more” moment… it was my fault.

JL Billet makes a barrel nut that might be a direct replacement , dependent on your style used in the OEM configuration.

The old style JLB ones were for sure.

thanks for the link to the barrel nut… hopefully that helps someone who had need of it,. the only one i did of PSA’s that would be damaged was a standard barrel nut so it was easy to replace.

I swapped out a handguard. It was quite difficult, because I’m an idiot, and also didn’t have any tools. Still got perfect results.
