I have a couple PSA ARs I am going to take the A2 flash suppressors off for ASR flash suppressors to use my new Omega 36M suppressor. They’re both phosphate 10.5” barrel pistols with the fixed A2 front sight base. Neither should be a pin and weld of any kind, should be just torqued on.
never had a super tight flash hider on a psa built upper….i was surprised on my last order. i changed out the handguard to find that they even used Aeroshell on the barrel nut threads. Every single upper I’ve ever had before that only had oil on the threads….
yeah supposedly they should have been using the aeroshell on the uppers all along… so idk.. glad yours had it..
i’ve never ran across a psa uppper that had a hard to remove flash hider. i put my upper in a vice block and spin spin spin it goes right off.. easy peezy. the barrel nuts are the different story though.. they’re installed by the hand of God on a day he was mad at Lucifer or something.. cause they do NOT come off easy.. you practically have to use Fire to get them to spin off.
sage advice. i’ve never had one that was that difficult regarding the flash hider… so luckily ive never had that issue, but i’ve heard the horror stories.. all too well…
I spun off the A2 flash suppressor off one of my pistols that I am waiting for the Form 1 to come back on. It was easy, held the front sight base with my left hand, used the armorers wrench with my right, it came right off. Installed an ASR suppressor/mount for my Omega 36M suppressor. Can’t wait to shoot it.
I had to take my AR to a GunSmith I know. He had a Brownwell Vise clamp and something he put down the barrel to support it. He made it look super easy. I joked with him that it only came off that easy because I loosen with my efforts first.
sounds like he had a vice block and a reaction rod. the reaction rod would hold the rifle still in the breach, so you wouldnt get any twisting of the barrel in the upper at all.
