Dissapator Build

Really had no intentions of building a dizzy, then I ran across the link in a Dissapator thread and next thing I know it was here. Planning on triangular hand guards and an A-1 carry handle upper.

The carry handle definitely helps that style, also a plastic picatinny hanguard adapter for a light. The best thing I like about this handguard style is the support hand comfort. Enjoy!

Busted my barrel wrench trying to remove the barrel. Realized I’m also going to need a duckbill flash suppressor for this project.

Wonder if DPMS would accept a retun?

I’ve seen where wher properly placing the work in a bench vice then heated carefully so as not to burn, a torch will heat a d expand the barrel nut which will easily come loose with much less effort.

Lol I doubt it, it’s been a good tool I’ve removed and installed a number of barrels with it.

I’ve never used heat before but I think when I get the new wrench I will. Even though I’m not reusing the upper I’d like to not damage it and be able to trade or sell it later. Hopefully just a little light heat will be enough to do it.

There are video on YT removing stuck AR barrels. The heat expands the nut and destroys any sealant used. You just want to use a torch all around and warm to the point of a hot ironing iron for clothing. Touch with wet finger sizzle ready and it will come right off like it was never tight. You can also install a nut hot and it will insure it stays on.

So got the barrel off and removed the FSB, sent it to John Thomas at R.A.W. and he’s already done with it and shipped it. Should have it Friday. Highly recommend John he does great work. I’ll post up an after pic when it gets here.

Soaked them in naval jelly overnight.

Wow, Im sort of catching up on this topic. You really did a great job. I’ve used Navy Jelly on ships to strip layers of paint in magazine trunks but never to finish metal. Looks good.

I’ve used it before on various small parts when. I couldn’t buy a “grey” parts kit. Mainly triggers, magazine release etc. Depends on the original finish and how long you leave in the jelly.

Where did you pick up the flash hider

JT does amazing work. Had him do a pin and weld and nearly need a magnifying glass to see the weld. Turns stuff out really quick too.
