Does this AK-103 rear stock latch look normal?

Very happily bought a nice looking AK-103 enhanced with a triangle folder. I haven’t been able to shoot it yet, but it looks really nice. One oddity (to me) that I note though. The rear stock latch seems like it’s bent outwards. I have a Bulgarian AK74 to compare it to (and others I’ve seen) and I believe it’s supposed to be flush.

I haven’t contacted customer service yet, because I don’t want to mail the whole rifle back if I don’t have to (major PITA for me as I live in the boonies and work midnights).

That does look a little bent. Does it function? Also, are you familiar enough with an AK that you could change it yourself? If so, maybe the PSA guys could just send you a new one.

Yes, I could swap it easily (manually retract spring, withdraw pin, remove catch, install new one). I just didn’t want to mess with a brand new warrantied item until I received input and somehow documented the potential issue. (Didn’t want them to think I was doing some kind of bubba gunsmithing)

If they agree that it doesn’t look right (doesn’t to me), and would be willing to send a latch, I’d gladly call it good and put in a new one. It’d save me hours of lost sleep and traveling to a hub 30 miles away when it’s open. Plus I really like the looks of this rifle, so I don’t want to give it up!

Also, yes— it’s functional. The stock does have a bit of “cast-on” (deviates from center line to the left) when opened and latched, but I was trying not to be overly picky.

I’mm 100% once you make contact with PSA, explain the issue/possible issue, they can and will gladly ship you out a new latch.

Just following up. I haven’t heard anything yet, so last night I messaged a link to this thread to @sean.psa @Anthony_PSA and @Josiah_PSA

Besides the rear stock latch I’m pretty happy so far. I finally got to shoot it this weekend, and was amazed at the initial sight-in. I went with the ‘24yards on sight setting 2’ technique and was amazed to be on for windage right out of the box, and one full rotation up on the front sight put me right on the money. I shot it with irons on Saturday at 100 yards on the 100m setting, and it appears to be pretty close to “on”. I was having trouble getting stable with my setup, so I’m going to go again with a different set-up before I finish sighting in.

Anyhow— this rifle ran flawless and I’m happy except for the rear latch. I took some pics to show the “cast on” deflection of the stock. I believe it’s likely caused by the latch. I know there’s a pair of adjustment screws in the rear trunnion, but they serve to take out slop. There’s not much play in the stock now, and running them out would simply push the stock slightly more to the left (“cast on”).

Thank you Sir! Reply returned.:grinning:

Thank you Anthony and Sean! The parts showed up yesterday by next-day air! You guys rock! I installed the new latch (took some minor fitting), and now it’s 100% good to go!

Original latch on left, new one on right:

I celebrated by installing a set of original Russian plum furniture, and now I’m just waiting for the AK-103 mags I ordered to get through the shipping backlog (totally understand the Washington mag priority, plus the current craziness).

Once again— Thank you guys VERY MUCH!!!
