I recently picked up a PSA AK74 in used condition off Gunbroker that was listed as never fired however upon inspecting it I realised there was wear on the gun. I took some time to clean the barrel and noticed some gun powder residue. I don’t think this is normal even if guns are test fired before they are sent out to the market. I also noticed wear on parts of the gun which has me even more worried. What should I do? Does PSA’s warranty extend between owners.
Sidenote:In the pictures there’s green furniture which I had installed by a gunsmith. I didn’t notice the wear at first. Silly me.
#1 all PSA guns are test fired before leaving the factory, but not cleaned.
#2 Sellers on gunbroker and armslist and everywhere else lie.
If it says only 50 rnds fired, multiply that by 5.
PSA warranty does transfer, but you are gtg. Shoot it with confidence.
Honestly that looked pretty normal to me on a used firearm. Doesn’t matter that the seller states its NOS and Never been fired just sat in the safe. I always assume it’s all a load of bunk, and while at my FFL I disassemble the entire thing and inspect closely. If something part wise is missing and or doesn’t pass the eye and or finger-nail test ie: deep gouges in the finish, corrosion, lands and or grooves not being present in the barrel, firing pin that isn’t retained and or missing all together lol. I’ve ALMOST bought was wild crap. But it’s always on me as the buyer to inspect and make sure what I’m buying is safe and accurately described by the seller. If there isn’t any signs of corrosion then I’d say you’ll be good to go on this one man. PSA warranty does transfer to whoever the current owner is as well ![]()
Doesn’t look bad at all and I don’t think it would be covered as warranty damage. Did you get it from a dealer? He might have had it on the wall and 2 dozen customers handled that rifle. That much wear could also be gotten just by larping in the back yard. I am sure if you shoot it from time to time you will cover those wear marks with plenty of your own.
that is a used gun which was fired.
Is there a way to tell what kind of barrel it uses. Be it a 4150 steel or 4150 CMV. The later would be better. The serial number says 745000976. How early or later production run is that model?
The scratch from the lever is perfectly normal on all AK’s. It happens when AK’s are assembled.
Does it have the big PSA logo on the side of the receiver? If so, those are older models made prior to the transition to Soviet Arms as the name.
Also, is that a AK-74? if so it is a 4150 CMV.
It’s an AK74, but the older versions had 4150 steel barrels rather than 4150 CMV.
take it out, load it up, shoot the dirt out of it. once you do that, report back how much fun you had and how well she shot, and be happy.
thats all you gotta do.
I’ll do that. As for the serial number which is 745000976, do you think it’s a early or later production model? I want to know if it’s barrel is 4150 CMV or 4150 Steel. If it’s the former all the better.
Does the reciever have the big PSA logo on the right side?
Ok as the seller, Id like to chime in here and shed some light on this, as this whole situation is getting a bit silly. I sold this out of my personal collection to fund a SAM5. I am NOT a dealer and I bought this direct from PSA earlier this year.
First of all, the gun has never been fired by me. 5.45 is drying up and it’s been hard to get ammo for at non rip off prices. That carbon is from the factory test fire. Buy any new PSA AK and you will see the same thing if you run a patch through the barrel.
Look at the bolt face or look for any kind of peening or wear on the internals besides some wear from dry firing and racking the gun. If your “gunsmith” knew what he was talking about, he could easily tell you the same. There are tools and tests any gunsmith can do to tell you condition of the gun. The fact you took this to a gunsmith for a polymer furniture swap tells me you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.
As for the barrel steel, the real distinction is between 4140 and 4150 or stainless. “4150 Steel” IS CMV. Before you start making claims, how about you do a simple google search. I shouldn’t have sold this to you the moment you started asking me questions like this.
Even if you put a mag down range for a test fire, there will be traces of carbon from a test fire. This guy has been messaging me constantly being OCD about a used gun sold as is. You can even see the external finish marks in the listing photos. I sold him the gun with 8 Bulgarian mags and even a spare furniture set at a very fair price. I even offered to refund him just for him to leave me alone.
The wear is from literally larping around my bedroom and swapping furniture and other accessories. He is now going through gunbroker trying to take some sort of action against me. Well guess what, it works both ways. I contacted them to make sure I’m protected. The gun was listed used and sold as is. Your ignorance on the topic and lack of common sense is not my problem.
I should have just kept this gun and avoided the headache. If you wanted a brand new gun, maybe you should have bought a new gun. You accepted the transfer without any sort of inspection. Next time, if you have issues, don’t accept the transfer and I would have worked with you.
Normally, I wouldn’t have bothered to find this post or even comment, but I am SICK of your constant messages and threats. I don’t take people calling me a liar lightly. I’ve gone above and beyond to try to answer all of your questions. Once you mentioned gunbroker contacting me, you crossed a line that didn’t need to be crossed. Also, a warranty claim for this? Seriously?
I didn’t intend for this to be such a big misunderstanding or to make it into threats or anything. Let’s let this go dude. I’m sorry about all this. I just thought it was used, but I must have been missing something. I thumbed your post up out of good faith. Let’s just move on with our lives.
To answer GuitarGuy’s post the logo is on the left side of the gun was is the case with other PSA AK74’s. This isn’t the only PSA AK74 I have. I have another with a fixed stock.
I’m cool with with that. Likewise.
Glad yall worked it out. I was just asking about the logo because older receivers have it and newer ones dont and you were trying to pinpoint age.
Good job working it out and letting it go Gentlemen. We don’t don’t see enough Adults being and acting like Adults in 2024. I respect the communication and both of y’all being able to let it go and squash the qualms. Cheers to the both of ya ![]()
This is unironically the answer, the pictures provided wont show the wear, the rear of the bolt will.
