Went to take my muzzle device off and the barrel spun. I was using the Geissele reaction rod and just trying to take the brake off so I could time it with another shim.
I’ve been trying to chase down the 2-3 moa groupings with this gun and this was likely the culprit. Second time this upper will travel back to PSA unfortunately.
This happen to anyone else or any ideas for ways to prevent in the future? I thought the barrel extensions were torqued with some form of thread locker?
G reaction rods are unfortunately known to make this happen sometimes. Barrel blocks are a better solution for muzzle device changes. This is the first PSA barrel i have seen that happen with.
I think Midwest made a version of the reaction rod that locks in better with the upper. I use wooden barrel blocks i made myself. Just drilled a slightly smaller diameter hole than the diameter of a barrel and then used gorilla tape in the drilled out section for grip. If its a pencil barrel, i wrap the barrel in leather before putting it in blocks.
when I’m removing any muzzle devise I do basically what @GuitarGuy does, but since the barrel into barrel extension is supposed to be something like 150 ft/lb I would have a hard time accepting that sometimes removing a flash suppressor could loosen the barrel from the extension. Am I seeing something incorrectly?
That’s what I’m saying. I could see if I was hanging off the end of a 2 ft cheater but this was a 3/8th torque wrench set to 25 lb ft. I don’t remember the beeper indicating I was close to 25 either.
Waiting to see what PSA customer service says about it but in the mean time, I ordered vice blocks and leather material.
My apologies, I actually have the MI URR. I thought the Geissele ones had the gas tube channel “flag” on the top. Not that this would have prevented the barrel coming free of the barrel extension, just wanted to update the record.
