I really like the idea behind it. Here’s how it looks on my JAKL…
Collapsed:
…and extended:
The brace is well-made. But I do have a few concerns. First, the brace mount blocks the use of the JAKL’s QD sling attachment. I messed-around with it for a while, but there’s about 1.5mm of material in the way of getting the QD inserted. There’s a QD sling point on the extendable part of the brace, but my preference on most rifles is to sling from just behind the receiver.
Second—and this is entirely a me problem, is that with the brace on, it no longer fits in my Vertx pack. This makes me wish there was a QD mount for the brace, but that would probably lead to functionality issues.
The third is that a week ago, the MSRP of these was $329 and I bought it “on sale” for only $265. Visited the site today to check o some things and now the MSRP is $245. Kind of sucks to fall for that.
Anyway, I’d love to hear thoughts and feedback on the brace on this pistol.
It’s really limited by the arms. If there were a version wide enough to straddle the receiver, I think it could be a lot better… better cheek weld (that is, if one would hold an arm brace up to their face), better-looking, more in-line with the recoil, and not block the sling attachment. But, that would be a fat brace.
My OCD wouldnt allow it solely based on the color.
I also like all my AR pattern rifles to be the same, including optic height. That brace makes it look like a nose buster. FWIW, i did a f1 on mine and was approved in about 30 days.
I’m busy telling myself I don’t need a third SBR… and that I want something that can fit in the Vertx and actually cross state lines without pre-approval.
PSA will price match your sale price and refund 20.00 i know cause they did it for me the other week. give Customer service a call and tell them what you’re wanting to do and they can look up your order and fix it for you.
As for the look of it. Mixed feelings. I dont like the buffer tube extension sitting there when the stock is extended. I feel that you’d need to make a jakl proprietary stock setup like that for it. One with out the buffer tube. also i hate to say it but the handguard grip up front is too much for me too, i’d probably go with something more minimalist…
I’ve decided this brace is not the one for me and am arranging an RMA. For what it’s worth, that tube is hollow watertight storage.
As a pistol, that angled grip—despite the fact that it is butt ugly—has proven pretty important for managing recoil. As long as it’s an unbraced pistol, the grip is going to stay.
With the over exuberant application of regulation over law, I will not SBR anything, until nationwide reciprocity is a law. Each person will find a different solution for their wants. Thankfully. we have a few options.
@st3phen I plan on using either the JMAC folding brace or the Midwest Industries folding Alpha brace on mine. Leaning towards the Alpha since it’s a little heavier thus helping balance out the overall weight of the gun.
Thanks @Jammo ! Happy to be here. Looking forward to being a part of the PSA community and to the release of the PSA5 (MP5 clone), whenever that might be.
Jamin has said it was put on the back burner to start the ammo plant. Since then, affordable mp5s have come to the market. I wouldnt be surprised if PSA scraps it. The ammo plant is growing like crazy. Their $100mil investment paid off.
@GuitarGuy Just placed an order for one. Good looking out! Also place an order earlier for an Century Arms AP5-P. I’ll pick up a full size if PSA ever releases a MP5 clone.
