Got a new brace for my OD .300 Pistol. This one I am sure about

I returned the Maxim PDW Brace and went another way.

The new setup is from Gear Head Works and consists of the 1913 ALUMINUM ARM WITH MACHINED HINGE paired with the TAILHOOK MOD 1 – OD GREEN

I really like how it turned out…

While the LOP is not adjustable, here it is in normal operation

And completely folded

And, finally, a partially-folded shot.

It’s really light weight and easily fits in my Vertx bag. The folding arm can be placed without having to manipulate any controls or releases to fold it. And, the Tailhook is color-matched for purists like @GuitarGuy.

In addition, the Tailhook is exceedingly easy to use as an arm brace. The weight forward of the pistol grip is offset by the Tailhook under the shooting arm.

I have an extra Spike’s Tactical buffer tube cover I might try to pull over the arm to, uh, make sure the arm doesn’t get scratched-up—or something.

Stg 45 esque…

Tailhook is a great brace. I wonder, for those that shoulder it, how comfortable it would be. There’s nothing there but thin metal. Even the end of the arm is hollow with thin walls…

Thats why i did an SBR. ODG all the things.

That’s the dream JAKL there…

While not a JAKL, this is my newest SBR… got the stamp in October

Apparently I have a thing for folders…

This is Shield Arms’ patented folder. It’s not an add-on, but integrated into the receiver.

My older SBR is a hand built MP5K clone with folding stock and forward grip. (I don’t have any photos of that I can find…)

Welcome to the forums @Owl_Howell :cowboy_hat_face:

My 300AAC (Form 1) Pistol, LOL! Yeah, I submitted for one.

Since this pic, I’ve upgraded to the Gen3 Law Tactical.

Hey, St3phen, very nice.
Quick question: there is no play once the arm is extended and locked, correct? Tia.

Correct. The arm isn’t cheap, so I didn’t expect any play. What’s nice is that there’s no manual release to fold it—just pressure sufficient to get it moving. It also tends to ‘want’ to stay folded. I’m still really happy with it.

Thanks for the swift and detailed reply. I actually just ordered it. I had ordered the Midwest Industries one through OP, but I will likely return that one. I will try out both (once they arrive) and see how it goes. I decided to go with the Mod 1C instead of the regular-sized Mod 1. Thanks again!

Did you ever get your Tailhook and arm? Curious to hear your thoughts…

Hey there, so I did. The Mod 1C is great, but their folding arm has a little wobble when extended and locked. I used some speed tape to close the gap between the folding arm “back” and the back of the pic rail mount. This eliminates any movement. Without the speed tape in place, the wobble is not terrible. When I secure the brace against my shoulder, it is fine…Still, I want to see if I can find a better solution to eliminating the slight wobble.

I also have MI’s pistol brace compatible arm. I have not tried it yet. It is considerably bulkier and heavier.

I will follow up once I figure out what is the best setup. Thanks.

Hey @st3phen I know this is an old post but I can’t find others running this same setup. I was just wondering if the Mod 1 hits the side of the reciever when it’s folded? Wasn’t sure if the Mod 1c might be necessary with the Jakl.

Welcome @voidopt!
I hope you get a answer soon

Hi @voidopt,

The brace does touch the receiver. My JAKL lives in a Vertx bag and it is protected from rubbing by the folding brace by fabric in the bag.

Here’s some photos I just took.

Also, the colors aren’t this garish and mismatched in real life.
