Just retired after 42 years in the boat business, and looking to become a gunsmith for part time income. Any suggestions on schools, or ideas?
If you have a basic knowledge of firearms function, I would suggest you sign up for machinist training. Manual machining, not CNC.
Congratulations on retirement. Have you looked into Senoran Desert institute?
Thank you. Appreciate the response
I have seen their ads, but not talked with them yet. Thanks for your response.
I was going to post what Darkcorner said. solid advice.
Dark corner is correct, a full gunsmith can make parts themselves, not just install them.
I’ve been smithing for over a decade, and just recently made a couple of parts for Winchester lever gun that needed what we could not find.
It’s a necessary and valuable component
school of the american rifle is a awesome place, since you allready have some mechanical sense this place is probably for you, getting in would be the tough part. as he is in owings mills maryland and has limited space, check them out on youtube SOTAR after watching some of his videos I never knew some of the things he shows, and so many things to check!! he’s very thorough
I think he just sold out his entire 2022 schedule, and there’s a wait list for cancellations.
I love his YT channel and videos!
