Tonight I receieved an A2 Rifle Lower Receiver Build Kit from PSA.
I have been waiting on this so I would have at least 4 brands of parts in which I could pick and choose a favorable color match for the Harrington & Richardson M16A1 Retro Lower I’ve been eager to assemble.
The parts in No particular order came from PSA , CMMG and LBE. I’m sure a detent or spring from Anderson might have crept in?
This Lower Assembly was likely one of the smoothest I’ve ever had. Every aspect of this Lower screamed Quality and Attention to detail.
My hats off to Mike and his Team on Harrington &Richardson side of the PSA House. Job Well Done people.
Friday I’m hoping my PSA M16A2 Meme Lower will arrive at my FFL so that project can be brought to a quick and happy conclusion.
This M16A2 Project will be outwardly stock but mating a Colt M16A2 Upper to the PSA Lower. The only cosmetic departure being tge PSA Enhanced Polished Trigger and Hammer combination being used.
My greatest hope now is being able to score a Harrington &Richardson M16A1 Stripped Upper so I can complete the A1…everything to do this is already on hand…even the accessories.
Yes Sir…this is a Trap Door A1 Buttstock by design.
Being perfectly honest the Stock and Receiver Extension Assy is made by CMMG. Here again it was a matter of being selective .
The CMMG Receiver Extension Tube was too Glossy. I opted for PSA’s due to finish.
The Buffer Itself was Black…not the OEM finish… I Opted for PSA
The Buttstock Screw was Poorly Machined and Razor Sharp. The screw was set up for use with 3/16 Allen. NO Drain Hole or provision for a Flat Tip removal or Install. I opted for a Brownell’s that was perfect.
The Buttstock itself. Ugh…Cosmetically pleasing but Lacks any internal insulation so you Will hear every compression and extension of the " Slinky " Buffer Spring in your ear.
I had One H&R and One GM Hydromatic out of 162 Total M16A1’s in my care at one time in life. I’m trying to replicate that one H&R , otherwise I’d use an older D Series Stock that will be far less noisy to use.
Sadly OEM A1 Buttstocks in good shape are either hard to find or they are outrageously priced and still likeky not perfect.
I’ve taken a route to replicate to the best my wallet will allow.
My current Need is for the matching H&R Upper to get this one completed properly.
I see TNTE is saying that Retro Uppers Complete are coming , eventually they’ll have Retro Uppers and Lowers for sale individually on Gun Broker.
Gotta say in all fairness TNTE while providing a solid product that Ive bought many times in the past, they are Not playing at an historical accuracy level or finish level like Mike and the H&R Group is
If a Canadian Style C7 /M16A1 Upper was acceptable in a project I was not trying to be Dead Nuts accurate about. Or close… TNTE would be a viable option … as the C7 with the Brass Deflector on an A1 Receiver is a great idea. Diemaco / Colt of Canada had a great idea going. In my opinion the Canadian C7 should have been our M16A2.
I was lucky enough to get a non blem lower with the trap door. The trigger is very nice. I am kicking myself for not waiting to buy the complete rifle.
Does anyone know when they are releasing the A1 upper?
I remember when just a private Snuffy and the PoGiest of PoGs back in Korea circa 1999-2000 and almost fell on my face but I stopped myself with the m16A2 buttstock, I would have ruined my mediocre looking face.
