Hornady 5.7 Critical Defense Round?

What’s that box in the upper right corner?

my 16” shoots xtp and it’s gnarly… im lost in this conversation but certain it’s very effective. what about vmax are they good in pistols?

Vmax is good in pistols.

Looks like Hornady 5.7 V-Max.

It’s effective for a 40gr lead core expanding bullet but it’s not ideal for SD/HD given the design parameters for 5.7 ammo.

vmax is perfect for any situation, saint hornady’s gift to human kind :santa:t4:

Never seen it under the “Black” product line.

Does that apply to all 5.7 V-Max bullets or just Hornady’s Black offering?

Edit: I’m adding Buffman’s quote to provide context for my question:

it applies to none of them… it’s highly efficient, more stopping power than a 45acp

Wait say what?
Please explain this to me.

I have not read the whole thread though.

@MichaelAnthony

vmax is very good for home defense, so are long barrels, however these people think throwing a stone is probably more efficient

It’s been around since the beginning of the year. It’s effectively what SS197SR should be doing, but isn’t because FN continues to water it down: https://youtu.be/tshdtGCl5Aw

Vmax at 1,800 fps works very well in the 5.7, but there are better loads out there that work around how 5.7 was designed: High velocity, long pointy bullets that tumble in tissue.

@Buffman-RANGE

I’ve never paid a whole lot of attention to the 5.7 to be honest I just thought it was a new fad if you will.

Now y’all have me intrigued. Thanks

it’s an amazing round! what i have loaded are fn blue tips in my rock so my intent is definitely for the best non-lethal option available

Well I guess a Rock may be in my future :grin:
I’ve always been a 1911 guy but shooting 45 sure does a number on me these days.
