How much is enough? When do you say I have enough?

It’s probably better than a crack addiction…probably.

Goals

between them and my Camaro addiction, i dont know whats more expensive, no, wait… i know which is… (hint, it aint the cars)

you’re right about what you stated above about collecting/saving… but with me, it doesnt even have to be somethign rare or special. knowing it was my grandfathers, regardless of value, is reason enough for me to hold on to it for dear life, like it is the very last thing in the world that means anythign to me. I am very sentimental when it comes to things…

@Coolwin1776 , what happens when you need more goals…

I have a fishing addiction also :fishing_pole_and_fish:

That is so much truth.

Keep counting you aren’t quite there yet…

One is none and 2 is one (for each caliber).

and for each type be it a pistol or rifle.

I’m with you, at some point I transcended becoming a collecting addict. Now, I’m good with having about 3 guns. Pistol, rifle, shotgun. That’s it

ok so i ask to both of you then, if you’re full and done, etc… what are you gonna do? keep all the ones you dont shoot and or go back to all the time? or re you gonna get rid of them now that you have your favorites? i ask cause it almost sounds like you guys are talking like you’re done with collecting…

Well, it’s not that exactly.

I realized something with all the collecting and it’s that everything we will ever have in our lifetime is just rented stuff. We all die one day, and aside from leaving a few trinkets to our heirs, I feel it best to leave my son with the needed stuff when he is of age, and to instill in him the discipline of handgun, shotgun, and rifle marksmanship.

The next part is, I realized that I want to be/ sort of am, a professional prepper. (Although I’ve now lost almost everything I own, either to theft, or giving stuff away that I couldn’t carry)

So the answer is, there simply isn’t too many or too much. But for me, I look at things more in terms of investment value.

I like to buy wholesale and sell at or below retail value, last year I had a small business started where I was buying from wholesalers and selling retail. So, I would buy things that I wanted and thought with the right pitch, I could interest allot of other people too, and it worked. Unfortunately, I lost all my inventory when my landlord claimed I abandoned my property, this wasn’t true, I reported the issue to the police and they said it was a civil issue not criminal. I wasn’t going to stay and freeze to death, and since I’m not there it has been difficult pursuing legal action against them.

And that’s the meaning of what I think is enough for me. For my own personal usage, I only need three guns. But, I plan to again in the future have much more stuff than that, although mainly for resale. This way, if things go down the drain I’ll have the things useful for a bad situation, but in good times, I’ll have inventory to sell for a profit.

Does that make sense?

yeah i think it makes sense. especially since many folks havent lived in your shoes… so it makes more sense knowing where you are in life as well.

@HazardousDukes I too have some items that are intended to be for sale if things get crazy or a natural disaster. A few guns and ammo can turn you a tidy profit when the next panic buying happens again.

I have been through several hurricanes. I spent a month and a half during and after Hurricane Hugo being on active duty providing security and medical support in Charleston, SC. It sure doesn’t take civilization long to break down into chaos. Being able to build and do some gunsmithing is a valuable tool to add to your toolbox.

It’s strange if I am not debating with myself by Friday afternoon which I will choose to take to the Range on Saturday morning. They generally end up being a category, like I will take my 9mms with a 9mm Carbine, or it is big bore and 45acp and 10mm. Or I will really throw the money out the window and break out my favorite the 5.7x28 pistols and carbine. Or maybe it is rimfire Saturday and load up all my favorite pistol rimfire and maybe my HK MP-5 22lr. Not about enough guns it is that there are not enough Saturdays.

Which reminds me I still need a 22 rifle! :joy:

Ruger 10-22 hands down, for me anyways.
@tsbond

I just need more ammo…and suppressors.

Yeah and reading the 10/22 thread sure does make it look like they are still king! I still have some nostalgia for the old Marlin from my youth years we wore out. Not sure what models they were.
