Hurricane Helene Recovery

We all know by now of the damage that Hurricane Helene has inflicted on the southeast US. What I have not been able to find a lot of is how to help. I’m several hours away personally but I intend on driving supplies to friends that I know in the NC mountains.

For those that are able to deliver supplies, who is accepting stuff in the mountains? Or any affected area? What is actually needed?

For those that are not able to make the trip to deliver, who can you donate to? Even if it is a small place just in your area, post it up please.

I have a few coworkers from TDOT ( Middle TN region) …some are in Hartford and others are in Newport TN. Other crews are in Sevierville, Pigeon Forge area. Alongside for support is TEMA with 5th wheel bunkhouses and mess tents for the crews. But they have also seen the outpouring support for the locals. God bless them all

They have a supply drop near the Concord NC airport at a Walmart. Both links state what they can take. I stumbled across this watching ADS-B tracking of aircraft out of the Concord, Statesville, and Hickory NC airports. This operation should be in place for about a week.

It is wonderful to see the outpouring of support from everyday Americans and it is also deeply troubling to see the GAF attitude of the
“president”…

FJB and the ■■■■■■■ he rode in on.
:+1:

Really? The news says he and harris are doing great things for the flood victims.

I donated

FWIW FEMA / TEMA has attempted to confiscate donated items and request people just send money to FEMA. Rumor has it, goods were being redirected to aid illegals.
So… sheriff deputies and state police are arresting ANYONE (including and especially federal employees) that attempt to confiscate, prevent, or redirect donated items. :+1:

The “NEWS” and the democrats they work for make noises but say nothing. Pay attention to what they do.

Finally heard from a good friend who lives in Black Mountain, NC. Their power was restored about 8 o’clock last night. He says they still have no water and won’t for a long while; entire water system was destroyed. Folks in the entire region are in desperate trouble.
If you can, please find a donation drop-off point and give what you are able to. Our local airport/FBO is flying supplies into the Rutherford County airport. Local private pilots are donating their time, plane, and fuel to get anything and everything they can into the area. Talked to a couple of them and they are saying baby supplies (diapers, formula, food), first aid kits, flashlights, batteries, chainsaw bar oil, and tarps are in high demand.

I had a neighbor who moved to Bat Cave,NC 8 years ago I hope he made it through the storm.

This is an old thread but Helene damage still exists. Im in the mountains of NC this week with our church youth group. We are working with Tulsi Gabbard’s foundation We Must Protect. We have 3 houses along the Toe River that we are rebuilding. The river crested 63’ feet above normal during Helene, wiping away over 30 miles of railroad track and whole towns. Trees flowed down the river at 95mph. One local man lost his wife, and her body was found 40 miles downriver in Tennessee.

Thank you @GuitarGuy good job dude!
These poor people need all the help they can get!
Outstanding for the youth to see this and be involved in giving back to those in need

Its a good week and we have only been here 2 days.

Today we did a lot of work at house #1. Electrical, a ceiling on the porch, and railings for the stairs and porch. The house across the street has a water line from the flood. This is not the max height, its where the water leveled out to and remained for a week.

This was downtown Spruce Pine during Helene. We may be there this afternoon.
