If you had to have a .22LR for defense

I haven’t used Aguila due to that reputation.

Hickok mentioned Guns & Leather! Been to that FFL several times back in the day. The co-owner used to work at Peterbilt…turned in his time there to go full-time at the store.
Sadly a few years back thieves broke into the place and stole a van load.

That happened to the Flo Town PSA here in SC right after they opened or were getting ready to open.

Yeah the red box is the worse ever, bullet is somewhat sticky. I threw away nearly full box and dirty firing. The yellow striped box I had better luck with but would not buy again if I can help it.

I had heard Aguila was fine, glad I never picked any up …

I have a 1947 Remington 513P bolt w/24" barrel. It was inconsistent on paper @ 50 yds. Lapped the barrel starting with 220 grit and finished off w/600. Also fresh cut the crown.
I ordered Eley match 40gr for this rifle and bingo! I was blown away with the groups l was getting with a peep sight!
Eley subs for several hosting a can.
I’m surprised Greg @1911 has not chimed in yet on this topic. They are known to be the most accurate 22 on the market and relatively cleaner. Yes you will spend more $ for it but consistently is worth it. If l want to magdump it’s CCI. If l hunt unsurpressed it’s Velocitor or Meateaters.

I heard it fired fine, just dirty as all get out.

I have 600 rds of Meateater Minimag if you read the specs they’re the same as MiniMag. I remember Greg (@1911 ) saying exactly what you said about Eley Match Grade.

I already spend too much time cleaning after range day lol.

What is this “Cleaning” of which you speak?

I have a Wife I have trained for firearms care…

I wouldn’t trust my wife to change the oil, let alone take apart something into 5 pieces AND put em back together right. We’ll leave the taxes to my wife.

She’s got her rifle in pieces on the workbench right now. Just sent me pics.

Jefferson YOU sir have trained her well and definitely a keeper!!!

Let’s not congratulate him on his training until that rifle gets put back together…

Which rifle is that? I have to ask I could almost zoom in but blurred.

Looks like the Rock Island TM22

Does not favor mine
Edit: mine was a RCH…
Wait l think you could swap either way
Now I’m confused

one we’re still waiting for a write up on

You’re correct, That front sight gave it away to me, I remember when they were on sale under a hundred.

I was tempted to get the 24" barrel frontier model Henry. I love long barrels on rifles, but not handguns. I only didn’t because of the added weight out front with an octagon barrel. I selected the 20" to be more comfortable shooting off hand, usually standing without any rest, barricade or other means of support. (I don’t do this all the time, I practice in various positions, including over or around barricade, kneeling, prone position, etc, but figure that I won’t always have the luxury of a bench rest in real world situation - so I want to keep up my self reliance ability to hit what I’m aiming at in the field.) My wife swears by that as well. Shooting bench is great for sighting in, precision shooting, etc and is also fun, and of course more comfortable …

Also, pertaining to barrel length, weight, etc; -considered my wife who wouldn’t like shooting it as much if it was uncomfortable. ( She does understand heavier and more mass equate to less felt recoil though.) But that is not an issue with.22lr.

However, if I was doing long range, bench rest / sled or bags shooting - the 24" barrel would definitely be my choice. But then again, apparently with .22lr, drag and deceleration might be an issue to consider.

I learn something new here and through videos from the pros all the time. A lot of times I assume that I know something as gospel, fact, written in stone, then find out that I was dead wrong, or only half right all along. I guess when we think that we know it all, is when we stop learning …
