I was told a few years back that PSA was looking at building a Valmet RK62 replica. This is the most desirable AK variant for many people including myself. Valmet was a Finnish company, so it’s an AK aren’t designed and made in Finland. Sako also.built these guns from the early 60’s through the early 90’s. The classic RK62 design is a sexy AK. They are chambered in 7.62x39 or 5.56x45.
They have indeed talked about it and the VUK. However, we haven’t heard much since. Jamin is an AK guy but right now the AK market is pretty dead. Cheap surplus ammo no longer exists and unlike an AR, an AK is much harder to build and customize. If Ukraine vs Russia stops we could see a resurgence in cheaper ammo which i think would help. I dont see any new AK varieties coming out anytime soon.
That’s interesting, and makes sense. Thanks!
sadly i think a resurgence in cheap 7.62x39 and other russian calibers wont happen. It would take not only a end to the war in ukraine, but then trump and putin would have to buddy up enough that they lift all the restrictions that was put on the russians as far back as possibly bush II. I know ol obummer put a ton of restrictions on Russian imported fire arm stuff.. but i dont think bush II did that much.. cause right after he left the office was when i was buying fully demilled kits with barrels for like 75.00 a kit for an ak. those were the days…
It might go back to Slick Willy. Didn’t Hillary’s simp ban steel core ammo over .22 during his administration because of “armor piercing” steel core 7.62x39? I think this happened in 94 maybe? I was a kid but wasn’t surplus, steel core, 7.62x39, cheap, and plentiful like 7N6 was back in say 2013/2014 before they both got banned.
BTW banning 7N6 was BS, even when basing it off this dumb, steel core ban law. (Which is also BS in and of itself) Pretty sure any steel core ammo .22" and under wasn’t banned. 5.45MM is .214".
i know that Clinton did ban the Chinese commercial imports around 94. so all of the Norinco imports were no longer allowed.. gun or ammo.. all gone.. this was largely because norinco was selling steel core 7.62x39 which were supposedly “armor piercing”
Just to point out there are some Valmet RK62’s and M76’s with straighter, less nanner
shaped clips
… I mean magazines. ![]()
it’s an interesting looking unit, i dont know if i’d like to own one, but overall it is definately interesting looking.
