Russian Ammo Ban

Ok so I’ve been eyeing the AK47 GF3 for almost a year now but I heard about the Russian Ammo ban in August or September. Everyone (or most everyone) on the internet is making a huge deal out of it saying it’s going to wreck the AK community (which is why I have hesitated to get it), yet I still can find big containers of Monarch and wolfe steel cased 7.62x39 for a good price at a lot of local stores and even online.

Is this Russian ammo fiasco actually going to be a large problem of supply and price or will it have a relatively small effect on AK ammo and the AK community? I’ve heard that Obama banned Russian ammo in 2012ish then Tula, and Wolfe just started exporting their ammo through Taiwan and Serbia to get around it. Does anyone think this will happen again?

This kinda leads me to asking whether or not I should get a 7.62x39 ak (I’ve got the money and love for it, but I’m afraid I won’t get to shoot it). Any advice?

Thanks all!

The ATF is said that all current Form 6’s will be honored.

There is also a sudden rush on new Form 6’s seeking approval, no surprise there.

Form 6s, or import permits are good for two years. There’s no need to panic right now. The cheap Russian Ammo isn’t going anywhere for two years…

Then about that time…hopefully there’s a new manufacturer coming online.

This is before Biden the illegitimate figured out another way to ruin our country. When .223 was on sale 20rds were $3.99. Before Wokemart became hippacrites they sold 200 rds of Federal .223 for $59. 20rds of SigSauer .45ACP silver case hollow point was $8.99.
F@ck that piece of sh!t Joe Biden

Make it simple. Buy 5k to 10k of the steel 7.62x39 NOW while it’s still available. Then, get yourself the gun. You’ll be good for a while

I don’t have the budget to buy 5k rounds up front (college student on college budget. Been saving for this AK for almost a year now), but after you fine folks eased my conscience I’ll start filling up!

Ammo across the board has slowly been building back up, and slowly coming down in price. I’m keeping my fingers crossed the prices may drop even more sharply after new year’s as retailers determine what they have left after the holidays have passed. If that happens, it’ll be time to start restocking!

Agree with “LoneWolfMcQuade” begin buying “good priced” ammo now. Each time you see it….at a good price….get at least one box……or three if you are able to. Then you will have a good small stock pile of shooting supply to use when you get your AK. Last year price was around $4.99 a box of 20. Now it’s about 7.99 per box….6.99 if your Lucky. Get a little at a time….when you can……cause it’s not always available.
Good luck.

I hear ya. But if you buy the gun, you’ll have no $ left for ammo. My opinion… hold off on the gun & load up on the ammo 1st. It will always be worth $$.

Respectfully, PSA also said we would have a PSA MP5 in 2018, a JAKL in 2020, and a PSA Krink by the end of 2021. So, I will withhold any anticipation, until I actually see some ammo rolling out.

Projectiles have started rolling out already. The 9mm and .223 are listed on the website in quantities from 250-3000. Not that this makes up for any of the other project setbacks we’ve had, but the ammo plant is coming along pretty nicely.

Thanks Josh. What brand name will the new ammo be under?

Its the start of the launch for our sister company AAC. Only projectiles at the moment, but we are working on it.

AK’s and AK ammo won’t be going away. The prices may never be as cheap but it should be comparable to 5.56 ammo going forward. Right now 7.62x39 is still cheaper than 5.56 so it’a good time to build up a stockpile.

Already started. I have 660 rounds stocked up so far over the past two months. I can’t buy too much at once or I’ll break my bank account. I don’t plan on getting the gun itself until March 30th anyway so I still have time to get ahold some more ammo.

There was a guy I was reading said the following: “I’d rather have 500 rounds on hand and have used 20,000 for training than have 20,000 stockpiled and no training.” Not sure you’d call that a “euphamism”, but he is saying something that’s “all or nothing” - people that look ahead would probably fall somewhere in the middle of that. Wish I’d saved that link. Training is pretty important, but I’d still like to have two- or five thousand (or more) put away for a rainy day.

One thing I try to do is pick up a little every other payday. Saving up and buying a 500 or 1000 round case is probably more cost effective though. I’ve also sold my “odd-caliber” guns and stuck with things like 9mm, 5.56 nato, .308. Used to have 9x18 Makarov and 6.5x55 Swede. Although I love .40s&w, I don’t buy that anymore either.

There’s a whole lot to be said for your first paragraph, but I’d personally lean towards disagree. I can aim at really small targets in adverse conditions very quickly and hit them at distance. If I couldn’t do that, then I don’t know. There is an immense value in practicing.

I do however wholeheartedly agree with the second. There’s only infinity guns and calibers that I’d like to have or have given up on, but I’ve filled the gap elsewhere.

RUSSIA. There are currently 194 to 196 countries on the planet, depending on regime change(s). Paick ANY ONE YOU WANT that isn’t spelled R-U-S-S–A that manufacturers 7.62x39 ammo whether it’s steel, brass or whatever other element(s) used for a casing. I recently purchased a 1120 round tin of YUGOSLAVIAN 7.62x39, delivered to the doorstep without federal government kicking in my doors.

Be sure that the ammo is clean burning, not corrosive, or clean the hell out of your rifle immediately afterwards. Some of those spam can deals contain corrosive powder…
