Is the H&R Gray Ano trending lighter these days?

No need to point out- yes, we all know that no perfect match exists, USGI, oil makes it darker, it depends on the light, etc…

However, the question is:

The older SKUs for “Gray” are almost black, and I know someone who was not sure if his gray was a misshipped black (but not making a fuss about it). The newer SKUs for the 607 and such show a gray that matches my C7 upper.

SO… if I order a gray M16A1 lower today, will it be like the pics (customer pics and website pics), or are those first ones sold out of inventory and it will be the lighter gray?

There is no guarantee to match with annodozing, and that goes for just about every color (even black can come out purple). Mike does his best to keep the gray as accurate as possible.

Is it trending lighter based on customer request?

The newer SKUs are definitely lighter on the product page.

The product page is simply pictures taken inside a light box.

Correct.

The grey Upper I bought in February is slightly-Darker than the 601 lower I bought over a year ago.

Don’t matter - every pic I’ve seen of an original 601, you can see the mismatch if you look close.

I also plan to “distress” and wear this build a bit, so that’s gonna matter even less.

Actual examination of them reveals that the surface-finish is probably the biggest effect on the shading.

LOL- one of my C7s had a deep scratch on the forward assist and had me saying, “This must be a blem… I mean, obviously…”

It would be funny to be doing that plus, “This must be black, I mean… it’s black.”

I wouldn’t send it back for color, but fingers crossed for a decent match.
