JAKL Picatinny Rails out of spec?

Just watched a recently uploaded YT video of the Jakl (ver. 3) picatiny rail being destroyed in a review. There is a full review coming according to the creator which doesn’t seem like it’s a very good one by the looks of it in the comments section. So far he’s pissed about the rail being out of spec. Other Guntubers are popping in and dropping their own .02¢. Comments section is getting heated. Curious to see the full review. Anybody here run into this issue? My guess is that it is a small batch with the issue. If it’s undersized it’s an easy fix.

First i have heard of it and PSA has been selling jakls for a while. Guntubers IMO exist only for clicks.

Yeah, this guy just seemed very biased. It was almost comical.

My takeaway is this: IF you have a problem with a gun (of any brand, because it happens to them all,) it is unfair to trash the entire line as if your one issue speaks for the volumes of others out there.

Past that, if you don’t give the company the opportunity to make it right, you have zero justification for complaints. As stated earlier, issues happen, they aren’t always indicative of a greater problem, and when the issues do happen, what matters is if the company takes care of them or not. If you give them an opportunity for a fix and they screw you, THEN you complain.

I see tons of supposed issues and whatnot all over YouTube, but as someone with dozens of firearms myself, I’ve yet to have a quality issue with any one of them. Maybe I’m just exceptionally lucky, but I doubt it. Given that, I think much of this kind of thing gets overblown because of the platform, and you have amateurs taking the words of other amateurs and regurgitating them all over the internet as if it’s undeniable fact and truth.

yeah the guys an arse, and yeah it may be a out of spec upper but it is the exception and not the norm. he was biased from teh beginning you can tell by how he speaks, and what words he chooses, If he wanted to do a video that was worth a crap he would have reported the issue, called customer service, documented the process on how to get it repaired, and what psa did, and then to see how it all worked when he got it back. but no, hed rather be a scarcastic jack off.

all i know is that on every psa upper i’ve ever bought, and i mean thats well over 100 now, and includes 2 jakls, i have had no issues.

My thoughts were this, it was all a click-bait clip to try and draw off of TFB and band-wagon on PSA haters. The biggest clue was as @GamecockOperator said word choice and context. You give me 10 minutes and a can of Dura-cote and I’ll similarly demonstrate out of spec pic rails about an hour after it cures.

I’m going to wholly disagree on this being “click-bait”. I’ve been watching Focus Tripp for about 7 years now, and if there is one thing he has been consistent about, it’s that any problems he has with a product, will stay in the video.

Now mind you, he was until this incident a PSA affiliate, and this was sent to him by PSA. If PSA can’t bother to check if something they sent out for a video wasn’t even in spec, that’s really more on them than anything.

Or maybe it just means PSA doesn’t low key juice up guns they send out to reviewers like we know some other brands do.

If you watch the video…it looks to me like he turns the hex key to hit on the points as he tries the jakl upper vs using the flats for the other uppers. Also, we have a thread on here that shows many jakls with a variety of mounts and optics and no issues. This guy just wanted clicks and attention.

And here’s two PSA uppers getting full autopsies and passing.

Chad is tough, but also very fair no mater the cost or manufacturer.

If you’re into ARs, I recommend his channel.

This is a 3 part series.

I love SOTAR’s videos, but man, how much has that guy spent on tools and gauges? Some of which he’s says he’s had custom manufactured for him. I’m glad there’s someone with the time, tools, and talent to do what he does and share it with the world, but it seems impractical for the vast majority of us to do that sort of testing. It would be like if I bought a new car and the first thing I did was disassemble the engine checking specs.

@BradE Well if your new vehicle happened to be a Tundra, Toyota might have thanked you for catching it sooner.

He is a certified armorer, and puts on classes, if you went to one you would have access to all his tools & gauges and knowledge, while you assembled your rifle. Plus he attends other courses, I think he just finished the LaRue course.

He put out a statement yesterday that PSA cancelled his account…

…Those are pin gauges.

Ya don’t say? I wonder where I got that idea from?

That is definitely good too see, given he has had some very harsh videos on their BCGs in particular in the past.

It’s a fair point to say that if I’m assembling a rifle I should have a greater quantity and quality of tools and gauges. But I also don’t want to sign up for his class every time I want to build a new upper. For someone buying it fully assembled, what sort of testing would be reasonable? I use a Go/No-Go gauge on everything because that can be a safety issue, and check gas key torque on the BCG because of a bad experience, but that’s it. I’m not saying it’s wrong, only impractical for someone buying an assembled piece. At some point, that’s what the warranty is for.

Prior to him using a pin guage it looks like an allen key.

For PSA to cancel his affiliate account means something else is up.

I will also once again point people to the Jakl thread we have on here of many examples of jakls, calibers, optics and mounts. Not a single complaint about out of spec rails.
