Sometimes I carry a BearOps Rancor II. It too is S30V and actually isn’t that expensive (~$60 on Amazon depending on what scales you want and made in Alabama).
I usually have a few on or around me. I found a good deal on a bunch of roku’s a few years ago. They have the belt cutter and window punch on them, so I keep them in my bags and each car. But I alternate whats in my pocket pretty regularly. Today its my Gerber Flatiron.
I love it, its not a bad little knife for the price. I alternate alot, usually between the flatiron, the CRKT Provoke or my old Kershaw folding Tanto. Its also not uncommon for me to have the CRKT minimalist or a S&W mini dagger on my or strapped to my bag.
Same buck my wife got me when we were dating 13 years ago. I want to replace it but it just won’t break and its always enough knife for the job unless I’m processing game.
Pacific Salt 2. My first was a Salt Delica. I miss that knife. Might get a replacement little brother for the Pacific. Got a Kershaw or two. Yeah I have to sharpen often, but they’re easy to do and solid knives for the price. Got one benchmade and it came razor sharp, but it dulls fairly easily and a pain to sharpen.
Ontario Knife Company Rat-1. I own several Spiderco knives and loved them when I was working the streets but this OKC is one of the finest EDC knives I’ve ever owned. I have several. They’re under $40.
This little fella goes just about everywhere with me. I’ve even gotten the previous two replaced with this same model when I’ve had to toss them after accidentally carrying them into security checkpoints. It’s a rare combo of knife, pliers, screw drivers and a belt clip. Made by Tool Logic, they are mighty hard to replace now, so I best not carry it somewhere I shouldn’t again.
I know, not a pocket knife, but this here Buck 685 Bucklite Max II can skin gut quarter de-bone as well as or better than anything I’ve ever used or seen for ~$30
My two favorite knives. Spyderco Techno 1 & 2
These are small….but they are built like TANKs
The Techno 1 has the thickest blade of any Spyderco folder.
Stainless Tool Steel blades. Titanium scales, . They are all rounded off without any sharp corners for comfortable carry and so they don’t print while in your pocket. They fit perfectly in the “coin” pocket of your jeans and the short lanyard makes drawing it easy. These are perfect pocket knives for anything from opening boxes, to cleaning fish, or field dressing a deer.
My second Favorite blades: Spyderco Paysan & Spyderco Nirvana
Both have One piece Titanium that is CNC machined out to accept the blades. These are big bladed folders more suited to defensive use…than to general purpose knife work. When I am having a steak….I can use my Techno and no one even raises an eyebrow……but you flip one of these open at restaurant table…it makes people uncomfortable.
These are the 2 that I use daily. The Case is probably at least 15 years old. The Buck is not quite as old but has seen less use. Carry it mainly when I’m hunting. As you can see from the picture I am pretty rough on knives. I use them as tools, bottle openers, screwdrivers and pretty much anything else as necessary. Never leave home without one.
