They did arrive today. They look and feel good so far. I won’t be able to do any testing until Friday.
You need to measure them against an actual charging handle. And by measure i mean everything, from the hole for the gas tube/bcg key to the channel length.
I recall some folks saying they used “Wish” CHs for their .22 uppers without incident. That was awhile back, 3-4 years ago maybe.
Just to update: so far, the pulping machine handles are doing just great. 2 fer $28 beats the hell out $90+ fer 1. Of course, it way too soon to speak about longevity.
True….my son and I, both bought “Timber Creek” Enforcer Charging Handles. Mine failed after about 500 reloads……my son had the same failure at around 750 reloads. Both cracked at the tip next to where the gas tube goes through.
Timber creek replaced both of them……but I wouldn’t put it on any of my ARs that I might use for Protection.
Iam interested in a review of the Butterfly Pulping Handle.
Mine’s still on the Slow Boat from China - I expect it here by Cinco de Drinko, apparently I chose a seller that is still in China.
One reason I really am not particularly worried about these is, often the ones they copy are not truly “copies” - but Blems and Seconds stolen from the “Namebrand” manufacturers scrap-pile(s).
We shall See.
(Mainly, I bought a couple to thumb my nose at Malwart and the Idiotic “Woke Anti-gun Culture” they have embraced.
)
Did you ever receive your Pulping Machine handles, and if so, have you tried them out yet?
I went a little overboard and ordered 4 Pulping Machine Handles. Three were exactly the same and shipped from the same address even if the seller was different. One was very similar but wasn’t machined very well, and the latch was shaped differently - it didn’t go down all the way (even after lubing). I returned it via my local Walmart store. The returned one was from “Konesky” (sold/shipped by Joybuy Express), but hard to say if I had a lemon.
The other three seem to be well machined (to me). I couldn’t tell you if the metal is good or bad or in spec, but I cycled the action with one of them scores of times with no issues. I think I could get used to ambi Pulping Handles!
Finally, I think they purposely confuse the shipper/seller/mfr names because it took me a while to actually match the poorly machined one with the actual seller. The poor returns lady at Walmart could see everything that I purchased and had no ideas either… Did match correct seller finally.
There were a bunch of people in line behind me that seemed to be listening in. It was masterful of me to keep a straight face when “Starynighty Metal Butterfly Pulping Machine Ambidextrous Handle…” kept being brought up (no brag, just fact) ![]()
Yes! I got them last Thursday, and mentioned them in another thread - but had lost track of this one to “Report Back” - Thanks for bringing this back to the top!
So, these Butterfly Pulping Handles actually seem to be pretty good quality for Chinesium, especially for the price. I ordered three, got three safely and undamaged, and all appear relatively Blemish-Free.
APPEARANCE:
The surface finish is consistent, as is the anodizing - a semi-glossy black. There are no visible Tool marks; but for the fact I dropped one and put a pinhead-sized dint in the left-side latch-handle, I wouldn’t be able to tell them apart visually. Seemingly as/more consistent than the dozens of Milspec ones I have yanked-on in person.
FUNCTIONALITY:
The Ambi-latches: at first one of them was a bit “gritty”, but working the mechanism outside the rifle for a few minutes cleared that up, without even using oil.
Each was tested with five different BCGs in five different uppers - all worked exactly the same as the ones already there - that is to say, they drop in, hold the BCG, and dry-cycle just fine. I have not yet tested one firing - but expect no issues.
Appearance compared to Milspec:
NUMBERS:
Weight for two was 35.70grams ea. - the other 35.89grams. An example Milspec I pulled was 31.11grams.
Beam-width for all 3 was consistent at 0.397-0.398 inches measured at each end and the middle, with height on two of them 0.293-0.294, and the other 0.294-0.295, Milspec was 0.394 wide and 0.301-0.304 high.
Width of the retaining-slot key was 0.492 on all three, Milspec 0.483.
Gas-key Hook was 0.598, 0.599, and 0.601. Milspec was 0.599. Gas-key hole diameter was 0.304 on two, 0.307 on the other. Milspec was 0.313.
Latch hook thickness was 0.120, Milspec 0.125
I do not have a caliper at home that is long enough to get overall length, but direct empirical examination against each other and the Milspec reveals no obvious great differences, aside from the Ambidextrous Latch Mechanism.
I believe that these are trying to Copy the Radian, but a keen eye will note differences other than the Logo….
Overall, I will buy these again.
Would I put them in a rifle or pistol I was staking my or others life on? I don’t know yet.
Ultimately, THAT question must be answered by the Individual, just like with anything life-dependent. Ya pays yer money, an’ ya Takes yer Chances….
Thanks for this. I’m ready to try one out at the range. Mind if I ask your source?
It was on walmart.com. look for butterfly pulping handle.
Great reviews gentlemen. Looking forward to review after a few hundred cycles.
