@Rufus I absolutely love your tiger striped stock… .wow… beautiful for a Universal. I really dont understand why someone doesnt start reproducing quality m1 carbines. they’re a great gun to shoot, and a ton of fun. I have a National Postal meter one, and love it, but i dont wanna shoot it all the time either cause it is historical in my book. Glad you got a good one Rufus… its hard to find a universal that isnt sheit. @1911 is a living encyclopedia when it comes to many military firearms and many that arent military too!!! Ya’ll are right, there is no recoil and it does feel like shooting a 22 sometimes.
@1911 i love your two Rock ola’s… i’d love to have a rock ola myself, i think its just awesome to havre a gun made by a juke box company. lol.
Mine has no history. Your Postal Meter…if it could only talk. To include @1911 Rock’s. Mine is not worthy, only the experience of running it. Maybe the history can be taught operating it. To anyone that knows not. My fellow operators l thank you for sharing pics of them.
@ Rufus l love the stock brother! Beautiful
I too think that you really lucked out overall on yours. If you have one running correctly from Universal then you got a gem. It isn’t a problem with the M1 Carbine itself. Universal decided to change a few things from the original USGI M1 Carbines. If they would have left everything alone and just went by the military specifications they would have come out better. I guess that you would call it the Gen 2 Universal M1 Carbine were a lot better than the Gen 1 were. So @Rufus you must have one of the Gen 2 Universal Carbine.
I love the tiger stripe stock. One of my Garands has one and I would love to have one for my Carbine to match the Garand.
what really surprised me was the fact that the m1 carbine was so much smaller and so much lighter than the much larger M1 garand. I love both the rifles, and calibers, but it is a huge difference between the two when it comes to weight and size and knock down too i would imagine… but to be honest i wouldnt want to be shot with either.
yeah the original m1s that served in the war have lots of stories if they could only tell them… but ya have the next best thing at the time is a “more modern” copy of the m1 carbine, and at least it kept the looks and operations the same as the originals.
some of the earlier versions of the M1 i believe did not come with bayonet lugs., the ones that were later manufacturing i think did… this is by memory so forgive me if i’m wrong, but i think thats how it went with the bayonet lugs.
@GamecockOperator operator is correct. The first barrel bands weren’t really reinforced and it didn’t come with a bayonet lug. The type 3 barrel band with bayonet lug didn’t came out into late 1944. After WWII many of the earlier production Carbines were retro fitted with the type 3 barrel band. There were few other changes to the M1 Carbine as upgrades before the Korean War started in 1950. The M1 Garand and M1 Carbine were heavily used again in the Korean War.
