Maxim Defense RDB Maxim Defense

OK, so I thought I was losing my mind, but it turns out you have to remove the weight from the bolt in order to charge the ARV with the Maxim Carbine RDB. I left the weight on for a dry fit, and I had heard it was hard to charge because of the design, but I knew something wasn’t right. I mean, I have been told I am a strong dude, especially with grip strength, and I could barely get it to move.

I adjusted the buffer tube, it was a no go. Pulled the bolt, removed the weight, and boom, problem solved. I have no idea how that weight was stopping it, but it was. I planned on removing it before test firing anyway, just surprised it would not work at all. So confusing.

Oh well, just wanted to share in case it helps someone.

Still waiting on upper jig for vice so I can torque barrel and thread adapter. Hopefull that I will be test firing by end of week or weekend.

Also need to get some type of red dot/ optic. Any suggestions?

What are you wanting to do with it? Plink at 25yrds? 50? 100?

One of Primary Arms micro prisms might be a way for you to go.

For sure, I would like something that I can take out to 100 yards for fun, but most of the time I will be within 50 yards. My range has a few outdoor options.

Thanks, this has been fun. Can’t wait to get some down range..

Okay, I just ordered a Vortex SPARC Solar 2 MOA Red Dot Sight. For that clearance price, it’s a no-brainer. I can always upgrade later. I also have a MAGP MBUS rear backup sight on its way. Should I add a magnifier?

yes, you can always take it off.. if nothing else it makes zeroing it in easier

first, welcome to the site! we’re glad to have you!

and yea that is a great little red dot for the clearance price.. you can do a lot worse.. i like your logic and having the buis is always good too. the magnifier is personal preference, me personally i say no, as i’ve never really gotten into them except on my beretta arx160 iirc… anyways… we’re glad to have you and make youreself at home!

Question: how did you remove the bolt weight pin? Hammer and punch? Is that pin re-usable should you decide to go back to the stock buffer?

Yes. Its just a roll pin. As long as you dont bugger it up you can reuse it.

Thanks. My AR-V came with the SB HBPDW brace with its proprietary buffer/spring/tube. I have read elsewhere the shorter CQB version of the Maxim Defense roller-delay will work with this brace and the AR-V (provided you remove the pinned buffer weight from the bolt). Can you confirm one way or the other?

Thank you for the feedback greatly appreciated.

Yup used a punch was easy came right out.

I can only confirm that I have read the same.

you’re very welcome. my pleasure. hope you enjoy your stay cheese. and hope to see you around in other topics.

The forum is definitely helpful. I’m currently working on a feeding issue. It seems to be coming from the left side. Flat-nose ammo seems to be a no-go. I ordered two more mags today. I’m going to try that first with some of the sub Magtech and see how that goes.

Flat nose ammo is notoriously horrible with feeding on PCCs.

The longer coned nose 124grain FMJ feed really well in my MP5, even the 115gr for that matter. I actually have not seen any 9mm flat besides reloading bullets. I have some 147gr but only shot those in my handgun. I have always thought the 124 grain was a sweet spot.

Thanks for the info. The ammo was B&A 150 Gr. But honestly was the first using it period and was surprisedit was flat.
