For anybody that is using or is interested in using the SB HBPDW, I can confirm that the CQB-length roller delayed buffer will work in it. I’ve put about 300 rounds through my freshly-built AR-V with this buffer with zero malfunctions. It is the softest shooting AR-based 9mm I have ever shot. Charging it is a little stiff but not difficult to get used to.
first, welcome aboard @2f5shooter! Glad to have you.
Secondly, i’ve not used any of those roller delayed buffers… that sound like a quite nice shooting ARv. I may need to try one of those buffers out to see how well it makes my rifles run.
Did u do anything special to fine tune ur setup? Im assuming u had to removed the bolt carrier weight. Also, are u preloading rdb?
Removing the bolt weight is the only real modification you have to do. When I was putting this together, I knew I was going to use a captured buffer system of some type. Therefore, I did not install the buffer retaining pin and spring. I do not believe you have to uninstall those if you were going to use it on a lower that is already assembled with a standard buffer system.
As far as preloading, I did not have to do anything to the buffer assembly or the bolt. When assembled, the bolt sits neutrally against the buffer with no pressure and no play. I can detect no space between the two when I pull the charging handle back.
This is great news! Another part i want to incorporate is the novox research x-sd. Its basically a ported barrel and can adapter (or something) that slows 115 and 124gr ammo down to subsonic. Its pretty new but that has to effect the blowback pressure and ultimate the buffer system. Thank you for answering my initial question
@coreymccumber maybe this thread might help?
How is the port pop/gas coming out of the ejection port? I’m left handed and shoot suppressed and am having terrible issues with gas to the face when suppressed. No issues when unsuppressed. I haven’t messed with the buffer system yet, but have seen these RDB systems and am hopeful they will fix my problem. If not, I’m considering moving on from the AR-V and getting a MP5.
I’m curious, did you have issues with the bolt release? I went with the Maxim defense set up but my bolt release is insanely stiff
It will loosen up
welcome to the forums @breas686 we’re glad to have you.
