Middle ground picatinny rails

Picatinny rails to me have no middle ground. Either it’s $25 for a top notch 3 to 5 slot, or $7 for a pack of crap from Amazon.

I tried UTG for a spell, the rail its self is very good, the screws and clasp are of very poor quality, in fact
I quit UTG a while ago just because of the screws they use…always stripping.

I absolutely feel MAGPUL is over priced (on everything), although I do use their stuff, my wallet screams out every time…and I am not big on synthetic rails.

Any suggestions for 5 Slot rails that are good, and affordable?

Rails are interesting as you have found out. I have several from no-name to brand name. As you mentioned I’ve had the same luck. Most every rail is of good usable quality, but the hardware is a hit or miss.

My only solution is to buy an extra pack of Mlok hardware to have some extra good quality screws and T-nuts on hand. Then buy whatever brand/size rail that you want/need.

My only real issue was a 3 slot FDE rail that had too thick of a coating. I had to pry it off my INFORCE WMLx light with a butterknife :man_facepalming:

Consider rails being a “buy once, cry once.” You can buy cheaper, but then you need better hardware. By the time you do all that, you could find a better one for the same price.

I try to hit up places like Primary Arms when they have their 12% off sale to get cheaper or smaller stuff.

I almost always end up with BCM. I have a grab bag of rail sections from various no-name manufacturers, but BCM is my fave.
