Need a quick simple answer

I could do a better introduction, but for now, I’m DAN- somewhere in VA.
quick question, I will do a profile later because I’m liking this site (gonna have to get a piggy bank)
finally, i got on psa with the money ready and grabbed a deal on a Dagger - compact, carry cuts, etc. package. sorry if this is not the place to ask.
Picked up from FFL Thursday and just now had time to put the empty mag in and I like what I see and feel except the magazine release definitely seems wrong. I sent the email to support, but if someone has the answer I might see it before I get the response from PSA. Empty or full, it takes the support hand thumb on top of my magazine release to drop a magazine. It shouldn’t. A stronger man than I couldn’t do it either. To do it with one hand you have to leave the target and adjust grip absurdly, and it is still tough. Best I saw was to shoot a bunch and it will break in. I don’t have the time or money for that. Will I get a replacement part or will I likely have to send this in? I can’t afford a break in period and i need to see if i can shoot it or attempt a extended magazine fix without voiding warranty. i’ll pay extra and have a gunsmith do it if necessary. anyone have any experience with an extremely difficult mag release, and what did you do?

Thanks

Hard to tell from your description if you have something abnormal or not. Any Glock I’ve ever shot (and most all other handguns as well) requires either an adjustment of the grip to get the grip hand thumb in the right place to drop the mag, or the use of the support hand to hit the button - and I have ginormous hands. If the mag release is positioned so that simply pressing with you thumb in the same position as you normally grip is good-to-go for dropping the magazine, you’d be dropping them all the time while shooting inadvertently. Gen 4/5 Glocks have the oversized mag release, which I can almost-but-not-quite hit with my thumb on the grip hand, so even though it’s easier to get to, it’s still the same basic mechanics.

That said, the mag release on the Daggers can be fairly tight, I read, although none of mine came that way (or maybe some people have a different idea of overly tight than I do?). However, wou don’t need to shoot it to break that in, just do a bunch of practice inserting and dropping the mag. It’ll be great for your skills, and should loosen up the mag release to more reasonable levels at the same time.

Mileage may vary, but that’s my $0.02.

that’s a good start. thank you for the quick response. i’ll put snap caps in and do some dry fire and mag changes until i get i response from psa. exactly what i needed to hear, because i’ve heard “you don’t know how to do it.” ready to leave before i start. immense help, i can’t figure out how to promote you, but if i can give you a thumbs up verbally, this is good for now. thank you!

I have average to medium hands and always had to shift hand position to drop a mag, that’s what training is for. After a while it’ll be second nature. I’ve heard that the mag release on the dagger can be a bit stiff but mine was fine out of the box. I didn’t care much for the shape and feel (it’s been described as feeling like a LEGO) but I got used to it pretty fast.

You don’t have to fire rounds to practice reloads and I don’t use snap caps for dry fire practice. Drawing drills, reload drills and even malfunction drills can all be done and should be done often and without firing a round.

thank you. i’ll put the snap caps, even if not needed and do just what you both have answered- i can’t wait three days, and all i had to do is ask once here. another good simple answer. i think i’ll stay for sure, even if i have to send it back and try again.

They are tight from the factory. I put a little oil on mine and just inserted an empty mag and then hit the button a bunch to break it in.

thank you. i’ll try that too. it aint going back. the answers i need- i am not a gunsmith, and have shot plenty of glock 19s, 17s, and p80s. just didn’t get this in my hand and don’t want to chance sending it back over and over. you guys are very helpful. i made the right decision to ask. there are no dumb questions or answers- even mean ones.
