I built a new kit last week and got to the range this weekend to shoot it. I put 150 rounds through it and the gun is functioning properly but I have a lot of blowback from the gas block area. The inside of the rail is coated as well as lots on the barrel both behind and in front of the block. The reason I’m asking is we shot three different AR 5.56 rifles all three with brand new PSA uppers and this was the only one that showed any signs of a prominent leak. Like I said the gun was functioning fine after a drop of oil on the trigger hook to fix a trigger reset problem but the barrel and rail etc. was filthy afterwards. My question is how much is too much and and at what point should I become concerned?
If it cycles reliably, youre probably okay, but i would personally be checking alignment on that because I like taking them apart. What kind of block is it? Clamp, set screw, taper pin (fixed post)?
It’s whatever came with the kit. It’s a free float railed barrel kit so I assume a low profile set screw type?
It will seal itself. No need to worry.
it should seal itself, but ive never had one that had any blowback on the barrel or handguard. i’d probably try to disassemble the rail, and re-seat the gas block to just be sure it is aligned properly. The fact that it cycles without issue makes me think it is and may just need a little alignment and re-tightening to get it sealing well.
if that doesnt do it, or if you dont want to mess with it, reach out to PSA’s customer service, and they’ll fix you up. Unfortunately there is no customer service on this forum, so you’ll have to call them or email them normally.
best of luck please keep us updated.
