No AK-P to Michigan

And they are wrong about that ruling. That only applies for the Michigan registration, It doesnt make the gun Illegal. If a “Pistol” is 26" and longer it does not qualify as a pistol in michigan and can not be concealed. At that point it becomes a “Firearm” and still legal to own.

What about this terminology? Would this stop PSA from selling it if it is considered a pistol to Michigan, but when receiving at the FFL it becomes great than 26”, but the barrel length is less than 16” that would be it an SBR. Well from what I’m reading at least

I think it would need to qualify as a “Rifle” in order for it to qualify as a SBR
“Rifle” means a firearm designed or redesigned, made or remade, and intended to be fired from the shoulder and
designed or redesigned and made or remade to use the energy of the explosive in a fixed metallic cartridge to fire only a
single projectile through a rifled bore for each single pull of the trigger

That’s correct, my fault. Then I guess that’s a very strange decision by their compliance team.

I’ve never seen a PSA AKP in person, but I cannot imagine they’re bigger than my JAKL that has been bastardized by the ATF

Its simply a misunderstanding on their end. I responded to him stating

“That only applies for the Michigan registration, It doesnt make the gun Illegal. If a “Pistol” is 26” and longer it does not qualify as a pistol in Michigan and does not need to be registered. At that point it becomes a “Firearm” and still legal to own. If its under 26" then we here in Michigan need to register it as a pistol."

Awesome. I hope it gets fixed; I’d love to have one for the PSA collection

Still waiting for a response, **

IANAL
I don’t believe that is a correct reading of the statute. A non-rifle firearm that is over 26" would not be a pistol, just a “firearm.” Even if MI said it was a MI-SBR - subsection(3) would nullify it as the firearm is lawfully possessed under Federal law.

750.222 Definitions.

Sec. 222.
As used in this chapter:
(e) “Firearm” means any weapon which will, is designed to, or may readily be converted to expel a projectile by action of an explosive.
(f) “Pistol” means a loaded or unloaded firearm that is 26 inches or less in length, or a loaded or unloaded firearm that by its construction and appearance conceals itself as a firearm.
(i) “Rifle” means a firearm designed or redesigned, made or remade, and intended to be fired from the shoulder and designed or redesigned and made or remade to use the energy of the explosive in a fixed metallic cartridge to fire only a single projectile through a rifled bore for each single pull of the trigger.
(k) “Short-barreled rifle” means a rifle having 1 or more barrels less than 16 inches in length or a weapon made from a rifle, whether by alteration, modification, or otherwise, if the weapon as modified has an overall length of less than 26 inches.

750.224b Short-barreled shotgun or rifle…
Sec. 224b.
(1) A person shall not make, manufacture, transfer, or possess a short-barreled shotgun or a short-barreled rifle.

(3) Subsection (1) does not apply to a short-barreled shotgun or short-barreled rifle that is lawfully made, manufactured, transferred, or possessed under federal law.

In the mean time there was a negative response made by someone, PSA responded, rightfully so, with this

Thank you for your respectful feedback. I am sending this up the chain of command to look at. Due to comments like detacbob makes, I am temporarily locking the thread. Respect and information like this go better then comments like his.

Has there been an update to this yet?

I’m wondering if this is more of a PSA decision… because of the ambiguity of MI laws?

There was a good friend who ordered one 6 months ago and got it. He didn’t know that PSA doesn’t sell AK pistols to MI.

I just don’t want to take that risk, especially with the fine print right on the page. I’m jealous of Krink and AK-V owners lol

Not sure if this has been modified. This was a concern of my last year as well and calling PSA customer service on the other line informed me they don’t ship these items to Michigan where I am.

I decided to test that theory out and have grabbed up multiple AK-Ps and an AK-V and PSA sent them to Michigan(Where I have residency) and I picked them up and registered them with no problems.

Just order them and they will be shipped.

hope this helps for anyone looking into Michigan and PSA’s guidance listed on the matter.

This has been updated to “No pistols with an overall length greater than 26 inches” Wish they could get this figured out.
