Ok, so i finally found a deal i couldnt pass up

thanks for that about the g47 upper I had no idea it existed… now i may have to rethink my direction and go with that and build the upper myself. that is quite a intriguing upper, and you said you’ve ran them? did you have any issues at all with that upper?

thanks for sharing the info and answering my questions.

oh about the devil dog hard charger, i’ve seen those before, and thats just kinda not my style. if you know what i mean.

The G47 uppers are top shelf. As I said I have used them on 2 builds, a 16" that I used a BCA heavy barrel running a carbine length gas system and an 18" Green Mountain Barrel Co. barrel, using a thinner profile mid length gas system. They will require you to use a proprietary cam pin, basically it is a single sided cam pin with a foot on the one side to engage the side charging handle. The upper comes with one and Gibbz sells them and they are very inexpensive if you want a spare. The one issue I had was that unlike a the PSA upper they don’t follow the profile of a MilSpec upper and if you are using a handguard with anti-rotation tabs, you will have to remove the tabs or modify the upper. That is the only issue I have had with the G47.

I just rechecked the link I gave you. When I posted it it said that blemished uppers were in stock, now it shows them out of stock and the unblemished are available on back order. Sorry about that.:worried:

no worries. im not yet ready to build. i also find it interesting that these use the standard psa bcg instead of having a proprietary bcg for the side charger. pretty neat either way.

At that price you should have bought them both. That way you could have a pistol and a rifle! I love mine, and have had no problems with it, but from everything I have heard of the Gen 2, the only thing that might cause a problem is the BCG and bolt. Especially the extractor. If anyone COULD develop and make a bullet proof (sorry…) BCG/bolt/extractor for the KS, then I’d be happy to buy one, or even two; just to have a spare, and in case I wanted to build a couple more.

Considering the power advantage and availability of practice ammo, and discounting the weight 7.62 x 39 adds to your load out it’s strange that there’s not been more effort made to produce an AR in 7.62 x 39 that is fundamentally the same in weight, function, and innate reliability and durability as the ones in 5.56.

Many companies have tried, and some still are making some version of an AR-47, but all of them have been prone to teething problems, most of which appear to come down to problems with making a bolt that will both fit in the AR, still be robust enough to handle the rim and power of the larger cartridge. All of the attempts, so far as I know, have centered on hogging out the bolt face and modifying the bolt lugs and extractor. Unfortunately, this tends to make the part weaker, when what is needed is a part that is stronger, but that will still fit in the existing AR structure.

Some companies have just based their attempts on the AR-10 platform (CMMG I think?) But that just means that you have a weapon that is heavier than it needs to be. So, barring the use of really strong and tough (and therefore, difficult to machine) materials – if they even exist, that would handle the pressure, heat, and shock that a 7.62 x 39 bolt has to; it might be that the optimal solution is to use the AR design, but make uppers and possibly even lowers that are slightly larger than a standard 5.56 AR, but considerably smaller and lighter than the AR-10 platform.

I know that is like swatting a fly with a sledgehammer, but unless there’s another way to get a 5.56 size bolt to handle the 7.62 x 39 while maintaining the reliability and durability of the original design, that might be the best solution. A light and handy AR type weapon in 7.62 x 39 is an awesome idea, and I really like my KS-47, outside of hunting and varmint control around the homestead, I don’t really have a lot of confidence that it’s going to be a good SHTF option, but it would be if it had a bolt that would be the equal to a 5.56! All I really know is that it hasn’t failed – yet.

well in the beginning a lot of the 7.62x39 bolts were also used by 6.5 Grendel folks… as the type 1 bcg for one works perfectly with the other. i’ve personally built both of these using the same bcg and bolt and have had 0 issues out of either… that said, it was an AR47 not the ks47… the KS47 however would use the same barrel and bolt that i used for this AR47 build from what i can gather, so therefore it should have no issues in that either… now that is only 1 example, and i havent done any heavy examination of bolts or measuring or anything so i could possibly have issues like you’ve said. the flip on that is i could also have no issues. I would like to see it if someone could come up with a larger bolt that would work in an AR bcg and upper, while having the barrel of the AR47 to have a bigger breach and lockup.

Kinda like an AR-15 bolt carrier with an AR-10 bolt… sort of.

yeah kinda like that.

Gibbz uppers never in stock…

Just got our classic ks47 lower

@gunnerboy76 welcome to the forums!!! we’re glad to have you!

as for the deal on the KS47 congrats!!! im building one too, ever so slowly… finally got my lowero assembled and ready for the most part with everything.

I know you have wanted to build your own upper, but PSA has factory uppers back in stock and since you saved so much on the lower if you were to buy one now, you would still be money ahead. Not trying to sway you( yes I am :joy: ), but you could order one to the store and be shooting in what, 3 or 4 days. Just saying.
