I live in New Jersey. I’ve purchased non- compliant long guns from other online retailers and had them shipped to my FFL.
Why does PSA refuse to ship and charge a restocking fee?
The FFL modifies the rifle and magazines to make them NJ compliant. They’re responsible for the transfer.
I’m kinda pissed I referred a friend here and then he got shafted.
Not all FFLs are willing, or know what’s needed, to modify ARs to be state compliant. I guarantee a lot of customers chose a random FFL, didn’t call them before it was shipped, only to find out they weren’t willing to modify the firearm and refused the transfer. It’s a pain to have to get those firearms back, so they just decided to not ship noncompliant items because too many customers assumed their FFL would modify it. I lived in NJ for a year and was able to buy a stripped lower and kit from PSA and build it myself.
Because PSA cannot guarantee that your FFL makes it compliant. If something were to happen, PSA may be liable.
My point being if you don’t ship you must acquit… it never shipped so why the restocking fee?
A restocking fee is a fee charged to a customer when merchandise is returned for a refund…
PSA never shipped so what’s up with the fee? Every FFL I’ve dealt with replaced flash hiders with muzzle breaks and pinned collapsible stocks and riveted high-cap magazines…
They might have pulled it to ship…
You also agree to the terms and conditions before checkout that explicitly say what can’t be shipped and there will be a restocking fee. I’ve been a victim of my own laziness like that before and had orders cancelled with other vendors. Why not read their restrictions especially when you live in a state with so much red tape? PSA can also decide to just not ship any ARs to NJ if they really wanted to, they’re a private business. I’m sure the legal fees of dealing with cases where FFLs don’t modify firearms and PSA gets hit with a lawsuit is higher than the revenue they would generate from selling ARs to NJ. It’s also cheaper to buy a kit and stripped lower because there is no federal excise tax like there is on complete firearms.
