Pistol red dot floating well above the irons?

I have 3 pistol red dots on handguns. On 2 of my handguns the red dot lines up with the iron site dots perfectly. Those are Gideon optics on a s&w shield+ and PSA dagger. My Holosun scs mos direct mount is on a Glock 45 gen 5. If I line the irons up perfectly on the scs the red dot floats about a quarter inch above the irons. I sighted in 2 of my firearms today when I noticed this. I usually site the dot just above my irons to start just to get me close, then I sight in by shooting. The holosun shots was crazy high so after I bought it down the dot floated way above. Thought this was odd since the other dots line up with my irons. Is this unusual or common? I suspect maybe the irons are off. They are strike industries suppressor height. The dot holds zero at least so far for 50 rounds. Thanks

You have a set of calipers you can use to measure the height of all the sights?

Yea, I’ll dig around for them. I was just wondering if it’s a common thing with red dots being set different or something. After I submitted my post I realized it’s probably more likely an iron being out of alignment or something. If so you’d think a company strike industries would do better.

Are you using an adaptor plate?

No, its a direct Mount for mos.

Could be milled crooked I suppose. I have an m&o shield plus that’s milled not perfect. But the the dot lines up. If you look at it from the side you can see a sliver of daylight coming through the middle under the optic. Ill take it back out and shot it next weekend with out the dog on and see if it shots high.

I was shooting it today. After cleaning I busted out the old dial calibers. My back sight is .256 uppove slide. The front is .216 from top of slide. So that explains it I guess. I measured another gun with suppressor height sights. Was .310 back .307 front. Pretty close. I assume sights are supposed to be the same height on a Glock style handgun. Am I right? Correct me if I’m wrong. How on earth does a reputable company like strike industries do such a thing? I wonder if mine are a one off or did they make 1000’s of those.

Definitely explains it, if your sights aren’t level and you’re using a standard sight picture to aim, then yeah your muzzle won’t be level either. Also would explain why your optics were hitting way off since you said you zeroed them using the sights as a baseline.

No experience with Strike sights so no idea if it’s by design or not, but I can’t think of any reason anyone wouldn’t want their sights level unless they wanted to use a really out of the ordinary sight picture to aim.

Pic of sights?

I think I’ll pop it off tomorrow and grind it down. I don’t like the idea of sights being out in case the dot stops working.
