Does anyone have good suggestions for a cleaning for for a GF3? I picked up a mil-surplus rod but it is slightly too long and doesn’t fit.
Thanks!

I have a GF3 with the brown laminate furniture and added a Polish cleaning rod. It’s an absolute perfect fit. I want to say I ordered it from Apex online, but I’m not 100% on that. If you like, I can bust out the tape measure and and try and find some kind of identifying marks on it for you? Just let me know bud.
Hi Stewart,
Thank you for taking the time to respond to this! If you don’t mind measuring it and seeing if there are any marks that would be great. I can try to find a Polish one to see if that will fit better.
Sure, I’m at work currently. But later on tonight when I get home, I’ll pull out the cleaning rod and see what I can find name/logo wise and get ya the length.
A quick check of Numrich shows two in stock - for AK74 and RPK.
Check description on their site for specs.
Sorry about the delay, had a bit of a hectic 24 lol. But I pulled out my GF3 and took the cleaning rod out. It measures 15 and 3/4" and I couldn’t find any identifying marks, name or anything else as to where/when it was made. I did go back and look on Apex, and I ordered it from them about June 2019 and it’s definitely a Polish rod. Hope this helps bud ![]()
No worries! Thank you for this information I will take that and try to locate one online. Have a good weekend, hopefully you get to go to the range.
I picked up a $9 Polish surplus cleaning rod from Centerfire Systems that was advertised at 15 5/8”. It was actually 15 3/4”. I tried my best to get it to ride over that rivet that PSA has on the receiver but it was not going to click into the holder. A YouTube vide suggested rounding off the threaded end to help it “ride over” the rivet. No dice. So, I decided to cut the threaded end and re-thread it. That went well BUT, even though I cut it about 3/4 of an inch it STILL won’t pass over that rivet. Tomorrow, I’m going to take off the upper and lower hand guards to see what the problem is and if I figure it out, I’ll post it. BUT, as far as I can tell the Polish rod from Centerfire is a bust. I wish PSA would recommend a SOURCE that actually works since they don’t make their own but that would be asking too much I guess.
I found a cleaning rod that PSA recommends for the GF3 but does not have in stock.
It’s a rod from APEX gun parts that’s 11.5 inches long. It’s for the Hungarian AMD-65 but it fits the PSAK-47 GF3 perfectly. I had a 15.5” Polish cleaning rod that was far too long. I cut it as much as I could and re-threaded the rod until it was about 13” and found I had to FORCE it in. It’s not just the rivet that PSA installed that’s blocking the rod, there are two 1/32 inch lifts you hit BEFORE you hit the rivet. I finally forced the Polish rod in BUT you need pliers to install or remove it. That’s crazy.
So, I’d suggest the 11 1/2” rod that PSA recommends but DOESN’T have in stock. I’m pretty sure APEX gun parts is the same rod and they DO have it in stock. The down side is that the rod is too short to run completely through the barrel but may be long enough with your cleaning brush or patch holder. It’s not ideal, but it clicks in place and looks great. The rod is a little over $11 but with tax and shipping it ends up close to $30. But at least it works and, as of this writing, it’s in stock.
AK cleaning rods are 40 cm. That is the standard size for 415 mm AK barrels. The only rivet that may interfere with the rod is the trunion feeding ramp rivet. The gas block and the handguard holes should align the rod so that it does not bump into the rivet. Off course the American forged trunion PSA is using may be off specs. That is a risk you run with reversed engineered parts.
