I just bought one of the AKM-101 rifles when they were on sale for the “Daily Deal” a couple of weeks ago. I knew it didn’t come with the cleaning rod, and want to now buy one to complete the rifle. I don’t plan to use it to actually clean but want the rifle to look correct,
I’ve seen some AK-74 cleaning rods for 5.45x39mm chambered AK-74’s but nothing specifically for a 5.56 rifle. Is a run of the mill AK-74 rod all I need?

I would think a standard AKM cleaning rod for aesthetics would probably do the trick. Post your results. I’m seriously considering one myself and I’d like to see how yours turns out.
And give us a range report or two. Tell us how it’s going.
Should I get a AK-74 rod? Or would a 7.62x39 rod be fine? What length would a typical AKM cleaning rod be?
Picked up the rifle on Friday and should get some range time this week. Will report back.
I have wanted to buy an AK47 GF4 however PSA made the process of getting a cleaning Rod (which should come with a 900$ gun) or a different flash hider virtually impossible. To try to get a human on the phone is nearly impossible. Will get a ZPAP M70 instead off Gunbroker as dealing with PSA was too much of a PIA.
A 5.45 or 7.62 cleaning rod will work for looks. If you are going to use it the 5.45 rod would be a better option.
