I purchased a Jakl upper in March and just recently finished assembling it. I took it to the range yesterday and I noticed the mags were difficult to lock into place. I noticed they would lock into place more easily when empty. I never got it to cycle completely. The fist 6 rounds I had to eject with the charging handle each round. The 7th round would not eject and the charging handle wouldn’t budge. I had to disassemble the upper to remove the bolt and free the casing. Any ideas on what the problem could be? @Anthony_PSA
Did you try adjusting the gas block?
Welcome to the forums @WestCoastT1 ![]()
I did adjust the gas to see if that made any difference. It did not. I suspect the 2 problems I’m having are correlated. The mags don’t lock in unless you really bash them in there, some would not lock in at all. It seems like they are jamming into the bolt/sled.
What mags are you using?
Also…specifics on your jakl. 556 or 300blk? Length?
Post some pics if you can.
It’s 10.5” in 5.56. It’s connected to a Aero lower. I have PMags Gen2 and Amend2 magazines.
Take a magazine (not in a lower) and line it up with the channels on the underside of the bcg. Does it mate together?
Also, any marks on the top of the feed lips indicating the bcg is dragging on them?
The channel seems to line up just fine. There are no noticeable marks on the mags, but there were only a couple rounds fired from each. The only thing visually noteworthy are the marks on the underside of the BCG, but that could just be from manufacturing for all I know.
Might be from hammer drag also. How much lube have you put on the bcg? Some jakls seem to need a longer wear in period than others (lots of contributing factors including triggers mags, etc.). If you really cant make it function right then PSA will fix it. You will need to contact CS for that though as they are not on the forums.
Thanks. I’m going to probably lube it up and run it a few more times and see if anything more noticeable appears. The fact that the mags aren’t going in far enough to lock into place makes testing difficult, and lead me to believe it’s correlated with the firing malfunction. It’s weird. An empty mag will slip right in and lock, but load it with 30 rounds and it won’t seat at all. I’ll contact PSA customer service and see if they have any advice.
Here’s a link to an earlier post on lubing that may or may not help:
300 blackout Jakl won't cycle anything - #11 by nvpurk
have you tried loading the magazine with only say 28 or 29 rounds instead of a full 30 I have seen some P mags have issues in certain weapons when they run fully and if you remove one or two rounds it no longer has a problem with locking into the chamber give that a shot and see what it does
It still has some problems even with as few as 10 rounds in the mag. With 3-5 rounds, it locked into place as it should. (Depending on the mag)
Outcome???
Lock bolt open when installing fully loaded magazine might help. Extar says that in their instructions. That might help.
