No pictures or instructions on how to adjustJakl rifle 8 position gas block

Neither the manual nor the insert that came with the rifle discusses the 8-position gas block installed on the rifle. Help!

You can find the manual here:

The manual for the JAKL on the website does not cover the operation or intent of the settings of the adjustments for the gas block.

That manual does not picture, discuss or address the 8 position gas block adjustment knob in any way.

Insert in manual pertains to the older optional gas block adjustment but not the new 8 position one

5.56. No clue which way to turn for “all the way down” and no clue which setting is for what type of 5.56 ammo as there are several. The video on youtube is also out of date and does not address it either. Also, PSA CS is a waste of time, they have no clue other than to send a form email which is worthless. You would think that someone at PSA would have enough brains to realize this and deal with it. It is impossible to speak with anyone with any technical knowledge at PSA to provide a solution

When looking at the gas knob from the top of the upper. With the barrel pointed away from you.

Rotating the gas knob to the left “counter clockwise” restricts gas flow.

Rotating the gas knob to the right “clockwise” opens the gas flow.

I have a related question. I just ordered my .300blk upper, so I don’t even have it yet to inspect. But is there on the .300blk version a complete gas cut-off setting for maximum suppressing manual operation? I had assumed that there must be, because why wouldn’t there? But now in reading about this new gas knob for the 5.56 version,…I wonder if I’m going to end up being disappointed in my purchase when it arrives.

Welcome to the forum, @chipsaunders22 … there is no gas cut-off, but someone might know how to do that. Not sure I’d use it, but it would be interesting to know how. Years ago I had a FAL that you could do that with. I think my SKS can too.

There is not a full cutoff position. Although with a can and on the lowest setting mine doesn’t cycle subsonic ammo. With supers it is ammo dependent. So technically no, but practically maybe. I have a Dead Air Sandman L can so it’s pretty high back pressure.

I have not seen a definitive answer to this question, so I’m asking again. I have the 8.5" 300 BLK JAKL upper. It has a total of 6 gas settings. The left pic is rotated fully counter-clockwise, the right pic is 5 additional clicks clockwise to the last position.

Understanding that each gun/ammo/suppressor will vary and the same settings may not work for everyone the same, what are the 6 settings “supposed to be” for?

FWIW I will be shooting suppressed 100% of the time and nearly always with supers.

Thanks!!!

Here is my 300 BLK upper from above. I can’t ever remember which direction is more or less gas, so I took a Sharpie and wrote it down. With the muzzle up, turn left for more gas, right for less. As for the settings, I find that the 4th most open setting works pretty well for anything I’m going to do. It’s not quite enough for subsonic unsuppressed, but that is pointless so I don’t do that. It’s a bit much for supersonic suppressed, but not horribly so. Turn it down a notch if you like. As for what they might be for, I’m not sure there’s a specific recommended usage list.

Thank you! That’s the most useful info I’ve managed to get after asking in several places.

I totally get PSA not putting out a “specific” recommended usage list because of all the variables, but just a SUGGESTION, or a place to start would be nice!

As ever, buy a couple boxes of ammo and go see what works best for you. Yours might very well like a different ammo type and setting than mine. I run 110gr supers and 220gr subs exclusively. I ran a bunch of super/sub, suppressed/unsuppressed tests and the lowest setting it would consistently cycle with a new, clean gun is below, assuming I remember correctly. You’ll see why I run it on 4 all the time. If it were dirty or cold or whatever I might need another notch up. I remember being surprised that 1 and 2 didn’t cycle anything consistently. Maybe as the gas holes get burned open and everything loosens up over time?
Super/Unsup: 4
Super/Sup: 3
Sub/Unsup: 5
Sub/Sup: 4

Sorry that non of the replies answered your question, I had the same issue and I had to call PSA asking them for instruction / info. they said they will email me back. Also when I looked that gas block that I have, it has to move the opposite direction for setting comparing to the 4 gas block setting. PSA still need to get it together for the JAKL line.

Hi, I just got an answer back from PSA it says : " Per our conversation, the product specialists has gotten back with me and stated that from left to right open to close shoot one round at a time and adjust until you get the desired ejection pattern. "

This is a photo of the 8 port gas knob in a 5.56 JAKL with a 16" barrel. I received it on 9/6/2023. It would fire a single round only and then needed to be cleared.
As most have noted in this thread there are no instructions regarding the adjustment of the 8 port gas knob that is now used by PSA. It appears that PSA has substituted the 8 port for the 4 port/additional suppressor knob combination. I removed the gas adjustment knob to check it out and noticed that the gas knob did have 8 gas ports. Also noticed that there is no detent as shown in the PSA video by Matt explaining why the plunger was added. This gas block only has the plunger. A small part of the plunger can be seen at the top of the picture under the gas knob at the indentation on the knob. To set the gas knob in this position, the gas knob is inserted into the block, the plunger is depressed, and the knob is rotated counter clockwise.
In this position the second largest gas port in the knob is aligned with the gas port in the gas block. Also in this position the JAKL will properly fire 5.56 55gr rounds and cycle correctly. A safety officer at the range confirmed that the brass was ejecting correctly. I’m thinking this is “position 2” as shown on the insert card that came with the gun. As the knob is rotated counter clockwise successively smaller ports on the knob can be aligned with the gas block port. It appears that the notches on both sides of the six indentations on the gas knob correctly position the largest and smallest gas ports in the gas knob with the gas block.
I have only tested the gas knob in the position in the photo. I do not have high pressure rounds, steel cased, .223, or a suppressor to test the other ports.
I don’t know if my observations reflect the design of the gun, or if this gun was assembled incorrectly. I currently have an open warranty claim with PSA on this matter.
