Picked up my JAKL at the Lake Norman Store today. Was searching for and found a PDF of the manual. A search for the Adjustable Gas Block Instructions PDF lead me here. My JAKL came with an instruction sheet that everyone else appears to be looking for. Here is an image of the instruction sheet.
Since I could not find one, I made this image of the one I got so that I now have my archive copy and to help document for others.
Any resolution? I have basically the same issue. I also have an open warranty that ask for me to work on the gun, however Iâve been a bit unsure about their instructions. Figured Iâd check the forums and see if anyone had this issue too. Mine ejects very inconstantly on every setting.

Sort of. The following is the reply from PSA customer support via email.
âYou appear to be correct, they have gotten away from having a the second detent, Happy shooting.â
I followed up by asking for confirmation that my resolution was in fact the way the gun was designed to operate. Crickets. Therefore, at this point Iâm going with the supposition that they agree. If I come across different ammunition I can test with, I will post my results. It shoots fine with 5.56 55gr. ammunition with the gas block set as shown. The gun is warrantied for life, if problems come up I will open another warranty request. Good luck.

Still questions to be answered here. Still not sure how to remove the new gas knob.
My 14.5 upper will only cycle 223 in the most open position, which seems off. Iâd like to pop the 8 position knob out for inspection, but I see no info on how to do that. All manuals and paperwork seem to be out of date, featuring only the older gas block setup. Which, hilariously, seems to âopen upâ by turning on the opposite direction of mine.
Lesser issue⌠My gas block also seems to be leaking a decent amount. At the knob, and where the block meets the barrel (front and back). Hoping that issue may solve itself as carbon builds up from use.
Anyone have more updated info from PSA surrounding the new gas block setup?
Instructions are above a few posts. Have to line it up with the plunger.

Got it sorted after some hassle. The insert/images above are not particularly helpful to folks looking at the new 8 position knob/gas block for the first time. Especially with longer handguards that obscure your view. Below are significantly more clear photos, with the flat side of the knob actually visible.
If you have the new 8 position knob, let me spare you some frustrationâŚ
1. Rotate the knob counter clockwise (from view of pics below) until the retainer plunger clicks into the cutout on the gas knob
2. Depress the plunger with a small punch, and rotate the knob until the flat side is down. See pics.
3. Pull the knob straight out
PSA needs to update and share their instructions for better clarity here.
Went to the range today, had the same issue, it would not fire with a magazine in it, it would fire single loaded rounds. I kept messing with the gas knob but same thing. I put on a linear compensator so Iâm guessing that was it or the magazines since it the bolt wouldnât close all the way.
The magz i used are 300 blk PMAGs
Might have to go back to the bird cage flash hider
Forgot to mention, sometimes the bolt will be hard to pull back.
Other than those critical issues, gun seems to be pretty accurate
Try a different mag, either lancers or a metal USGI mag.
I should have taken different types of magazines i figured since they were 300 blackout specific magz they would work fine, alas too late now
this.
GuitarGuy and i were out shooting our jakls a few weekends ago, and while we did this, we learned a very interesting fact. I was trying out my Jakl in 5.56 and found out that It hated the Daniel Defense mags i had brought loaded. it wouldnt load properly and the bolt would never complete its forward cycle to load a round. the bolt was dragging across the mag is all we could come up with.
I had standard metal mags and it fired fine with them, and then standard Magpul M2 mags it also loaded fine with, this was with both steel cased 5.56 and brass cased.
so the moral of the story is i think jakls can be very magazine specific/finicky.
the 300black specific mags may have something different than the standard magpul m2 pmag⌠try a standard one.
Is that for the 6 position gas block? I have the 8.5" 300 BO Jakl
300 jakl works 100% of the time for me with magpul gen3s. Was planning on using daniel defense as well. This is disappointing.
I have a 14.5 5.56 with the 8 position knob. I can easily turn the knob past âfully openâ to the point where the plunger is no longer in the notch and I need a small punch get it back into place. Is this normal? The knob/gas plug I have seems to have some geometry that is allowing this but it seems like a bad idea as you can disable the gun by turning the knob too far.
Note how the âwide openâ setting is ramped so that you can turn past it, but the âfully closedâ setting is not ramped, which is why I canât turn past it in that direction.
Is this a faulty gas knob/plug?
well my jakl is 5.56 so if you do try the Daniel mags, let me know if it works for you or not⌠cause YMMV compared to me with my 5.56 rifle versus your 300blk rifle
I will do both for sure. Have to paint the DD mags first tho bc i only use 300 in FDE equipment so I can avoid putting 300 in a 556
Smart. I color code all my mags/guns. You can also buy the identifying bands cheap on amazon.
