So I took the plunge and built my first AR with a PSA kit and a stripped Anderson lower that I bought from a local gunshop. I had to do all the paperwork on the lower because as I understand it, per BATFE, the lower is the “firearm.” Now that an actual firearm exists (and man, that was fun and easy with Youtube - only one detent pin flew across the room), is there any other paperwork I have to do?
Depending on your state, maybe. Most states there is nothing more you need to do past the background check for the lower. Also most states do not have registration, the only thing that has your name and firearm info on it is the 4473 which stays at the FFL. The only thing submitted with the background check is if its a handgun, long gun, or other.
Now go buy 5 more lowers and start building.
Get out of here with that nonsense, he needs at least 10.
@MrFister an old pic of my lower shelf…i said 5 because he is new.
Lower? That thing looks chest height.
Alabama, so nothing at the state level…I was more concerned about the feds because of some rules I was reading on SBRs/pistols and the bizarre nightmare of regs involved in those.
I already have a buddy who wants me to build one for him!
If you have a short upper just ensure you have a brace on the lower.
Two words:
EIGHTY. PERCENT.
This is really important! “Short” is where the barrel is less than 16-inches.
