Restricted from buying magazines and ammo. In an area that isn’t restricted

I purchased the new rock 5.7 pistol from Palmetto yesterday. I was very excited to receive it as I had heard so many great reviews on the pistol. I had no issues, added it to the cart, picked my FFL and received a receipt of my transaction.

I got to thinking that maybe I should order a couple of extra magazines and while I’m at it, maybe buy a few boxes of the very expensive 5.7 X 28 ammunition? I replied to the email with my receipt and gave palmetto a copy of my Illinois ID as well as my FOID.

So, that evening when I got home I tried to order two additional magazines and a few boxes of ammunition to test the gun with. I got to the shipping portion of the check out and the website tells me that items in my cart are restricted and therefore they cannot ship to my location!? I double verified that I am not in any of the restricted areas of Illinois they are referring to and they include Chicago, North Chicago, Aurora, Deerfield, but no restrictions for where I am in a county far south of Chicago. So, I contacted customer service.

All the customer service repeatedly told me is that they cannot do anything about it if the website says it’s restricted. I explain to them a minimum of three times that I do not live in any of the areas that they are restricting and that there should be no problem sending these items to me. I have received ammunition many times before it my address. However, they still referred back to their statement that if the website says that they can’t Ship to me, that’s all they can do!

So, basically they are treating everyone in Illinois as Chicago, apparently. They are not willing to listen to an explanation, any reason, just basically let the website dictate everything. If palmetto state does not wish to rectify this situation, I am done with them as a company. I’ve had no issue with their products. However, if they want to be more restrictive than what my state even is? Well, to me you were restricting law biting citizens from their rights to purchase an item on your website because you are not willing to look at a map of where they actually are. This is unacceptable and almost to the point of prejudiced against anyone in Illinois due to Chicago’s restrictions!

I’d love for someone to reach out to me from Palmetto State with an explanation. However, based on what I got from customer service, I won’t hold my breath.

It’s disappointing as I was really looking forward to this pistol. I had read a few reviews on it saying its praises. So, I guess if I want anything it’s back to either FN or Ruger. I didn’t much care for the FN and its location of the safety and the Ruger was a little better.

So, people of Illinois, beware of where you spend your money with people who further restrict sales to you and treat you as though we are all Chicago or Cook County. I don’t live in either one of those places or any of their restricted areas that they say they cannot ship to. It’s really a sad state of affairs that palmetto state won’t make this right. Not even willing to state that someone will follow up with me when I talk to customer service. So, if there’s a problem on the website, I guess the website runs the company! I guess common sense and using your brain is out of the question? I had customer service cancel my order. If I can’t get magazines, which are proprietary, why do I want the gun?

Well, it isnt CS, but instead the Compliance Department. @Josiah_PSA will have to help with this getting to them. Unfortunately Illinois has not only crazy laws, but also different restrictions based on counties.

Thanks for the reply. I know Illinois has a bunch of restrictions, but my area isn’t part of any of them. We shall see if they reach out. It just made me angry that CS did not refer me to anyone, or try to do anything. It was just “ the website restricted it, that’s all we can do”

So, how am I supposed to feel about PSA at that point?

CS has nothing to do with Federal/State/Local compliance laws. They did exactly what they can do. I have tagged Josiah. He can go to Compliance tomorrow. It may take a few days though. Complaince is responsible for keeping up with all the laws across the country, and it isn’t easy.

They even have to be aware if a law is about to pass. For example:

If SC was going to pass a law banning braces, PSA could not sell a braced AR for several days(and perhaps weeks) before the law was being voted on. If they did, there is the chance a braced AR pistol could be on the truck shipped but not yet delivered. Even though the gun was bought before the law, it wouldnt be transferred until afterwards and then you run into major issues with FFLs and the gun being transferred illegally. Not only would that jeopardize PSA, but also the receiving FFL and you as the customer (for trying to obtain an illegal weapon).

Edit: where in IL are you?

Edit: also on the website is the following regarding High Capacity mags and where they wont ship in IL:

  1. Illinois (North Chicago) — No magazines greater than 16 rounds.2. Aurora, Skokie, Chicago, Evanston — No magazines greater than 15 rounds.3. Highland Park, Cook County, Dolton, Homewood, Deerfield — No magazines greater than 10 rounds.4. Deerfield — No shotgun magazines over 5 rounds.

Nuff said. But you have to consider how difficult it is for retailers to keep up on every single nuance of every law in anti-2A States such as yours. Unfortunately, they can’t just take someone’s word that all is okay. And I’m sure it’s nothing personal against any one area or individual as you imply above.

Im in IL I just got ammo from psa a couple weeks ago, no problems. Maybe they havent updated your account yet.

I’m in north central Illinois(south of the sh!thole swamp) and have never had a problem with mag or ammo orders from PSA.

For a place that doesn’t care for States’ Rights, they sure love Counties’ Rights.

It must be frustrating to live in a State with county and municiple restrictions, but you have to consider PSA’s position. Most of the boundaries I’m familiar with are streets, creeks etc. PSA can’t be expected to drill into every address to see which side of a boundary someone lives on just so they can sale a few magazines, risking their business in the process. We have all read about the lawsuits some of these agenda driven Dem AG’s h are bringing against companies. It just ain’t worth it.

And I would imagine some of the ones on the wrong side of that creek, street would be very adamant about being on the other side. Greenville / Laurens County line runs through my property but my kitchen is in Laurens County so I pay Laurens County taxes.

I’m in Frankfort Illinois in Will county. No restrictions.

Don’t know. Never had this issue other than with PSA.

I get it. I just feel like if I can explain it to them, why can’t they make a bit of effort to make it right?

What you consider right still may be too much of a legal risk for them. Idk though.

I dove into the issue. Since Frankfort ILL is partly in Cook County, your zip code is flagged. Please send me an e-mail and we will get an order manually processed. Josiah@palmettostatearmory.com.

i have a $25 gift card and tried using it for a gun Bag. I live in Will county, Illinois which shouldn’t matter because it’s just a bag. I put in cart and used gift card but when i confirmed my address it said that it couldn’t be sent because of Illinois restrictions. First off I live in Will county not Cook County and plus it’s just a gun Bag. No help from support, tried multiple times

@Anthony_PSA @Josiah_PSA

Illinois in general has been HIGHLY restricted due to recent legislation. Please let me know your zip code and the sku you are trying to order.

Is it normal for some items to ship before the rest of the order? Had one item ship from texas and rest of order is processing still.

yes. normal. some items are dropped ship directly from the manufacturer or reseller. not everything PSA sells is located in a PSA warehouse.
