I would love to see the PSA 5.7 carbine
you and me both. hell i’d love a 5.7 Jakl too… so i’d settle for that as a carbine lol
So I noticed last night this was sitting in the case at the local BassPro.
I handled it, wasn’t able to dry fire because BassPro, but it seemed nice enough. I had enough points to almost get it outright - but still was unwilling to pay that much, so Passed.
Anyway, get Flyer Email from Brownells last night, it seems they have it on Sale:
Showed it to The Wife, musing it was too bad wasn’t BassPro. The Wife was all “I think they Price Match!”
And so they Do.
So I went back today, to see if they had the Courage of their Convictions.
After a bit of light haggling, it seems that they do….
Ultimately, I actually got it for only Free-Ninety-Nine, Because Points…
(The only thing that would be even BETTER would have been, if Ruger still had their Rebate on it)
Excellent!
Nice! Rock mags run perfect in them!
thats awesome. good job… you’ll have to let us know how she runs . i’ll grab one one day i hope.
Best to keep the wife around. Nice weapon sir.
Awesome! Congrats ![]()
This is what I keep saying. A 5.7 JAKL would be the perfect competition to the DBX and the DISSENT
Welcome to the forum @digitalnimbuslabs ![]()
Font size says that a comparative target, OUTSTANDING shooting!
Thanks Rufus. ![]()
a 5.7 Carbine or more might be fun for awhile but I’ll stick with 5.56 until I understand a reason for now, 5.56 is working and the ammo cost is 1/3.
If property and family defense is one of you top priorities…
1.) almost just as loud report.
2.) AR can be small too, that ATF suggested pistol brace regulation is clearly not going to fly far.
3.) 5.56 Ammo is far more common than 5.7, in a SHF monetary collapse and ensuing tribal
civil disruption it could get desperate with a ammo deficit, just like that Russian chump on TV.
4.) Didn’t the buffman range guy Matt find a velocity ceiling of barrel length around 2300fps.
5.) Military might carry sidearms but as fighting engages, it’s the carbine and that pure velocity
that qualifies it for war.
6.) Homosapiens are totally violent by nature.
I had to misspell to post
You’re underestimating the prices of 556 significantly according to ammoseek. Or overestimating the prices of 5.7.
ARs still have buffer tubes, which are a garbage relic that shouldn’t be on a modern rifle. The shorter you chop the AR barrel, the less effective the ammo is, regardless of what type of ammo you’re running, none of it was meant for a truly short barrel. People running eight or six inch barrel AR pistols are getting 5.7 velocity anyways.
No idea what you’re talking about with the 2300 FPS upper limit. Saunter on over to the Wikipedia page and check the velocity chart. There’s some ammo that absolutely exceeds that by 8 or 900 FPS.
556 being more common also means that in your s hit the fan scenario. You and all your friends will be leaving around all the 5.7 that they find for me instead.
I can also carry more per pound than 556 or 9mm, not to mention more per magazine which also adds up on weight.
Take for instance, the pandemic where you could hardly find 9mm because everyone needed it but I could always find someone selling 5.7.
My PS 90 SBR carries 51 rounds of 5.7 on demand for a total loaded weight with optics lights suppressor of about 6 and 1/2 lb, and even with a suppressor I can maneuver it inside of a vehicle no problem.
Comparing 556 and 5.7 in general is dumb because 5.7 is not meant to replace 556. It’s meant to replace 9 mm which it does exceptionally well.
Oh and the add on to that if you want a more apples to apples comparison the DBX57 with a red dot Stock fore grip and 30 round magazine weighs in at about 4 and 1/2 lb, barrel is about 8in or so. So you can punch a 3a vest with probably most 5.7 loads. Or you can carry a similarly sized AR, for more weight, No folding stock, same capacity, and similar velocity.
You do make valid points, especially weight… all this is well taken, however, the most popular
reasons for an owner of 5.56/.223 AR-platform firearms is rifle range and home defense, if we could project forward from there a SHF period may transpire (not likely but plausible) and Homola Sapiens go violent (as they often do) I’d quit the precision horseshit and focus on velocity, 4" military groups, common ammo & parts. The focus of running Mfg’s. that can operate will shift into volume products…ammo’s & parts for the AR platform, the most popular first and foremost as
a matter of fact.
5.56/.233
9x19mm
22LR
.308 Winchester
12ga.
Colt 45 probably .45ACP although ton of .45LC in the wild.
Good thing 5.7 can be made on the same lines as 223 then
Ruger just released the LC Charger. It’s just the Carbine with no stock and a short barrel. Hopefully it’s popular and incentives PSA to make a 5.7 barrel for the JAKL
Hay carful your hitting close to home. The LC Carbine shares magazines with the Rock, and since the 5.7 is ideal for blowback, the Jakle gas system may not work requiring a blowback system as well. Also the Ruger LC as a slim beauty can fit into some flat hidden locations making it the ideal truck, medicine cabnet or home fallback gun. IMO
