I’m not sure about that. The S&W 5.7 is gas operated, technically. Even then, it wouldn’t be hard to remove the gas tube and have a bolt with no piston. In terms of slim 5.7 guns, the LC Charger is basically the same size as the P50, no?
Completely forgot that Ruger’s used Rock mags. 30 rounds in the charger are at the ready.
DBX57 is about an inch thick, weighs 3 lbs, uses ar triggers, and is gas operated. S&W m&p is also gas operated. LC charger is still heavier and thicker, but not a bad option.
My p50 is broken just like the rest of my kel TEC trash, can’t recommend it at all. LC charger and carbine are both better (assuming no change except length on the charger).
I guess I haven’t looked at those other brand size and actions. Anyway I have a friend of a friend that keeps his Ruger LC behind his big screen, where it cradles perfectly inside the TV mounting bracket, charger out. You can’t see it as everything is black back there and blends with the bracket arms where it well secured but lifts right out if grabbed. Don’t tell anybody lol
I’ve recently purchased the PSA Rock w/ threaded barrel and love it! I have a Streamlight TLR-9 and a Holosun HE507C-GR X2 optic mounted to mine. I was even happier to find a holster which it fits in…like a glove!!! Figuring out more and more about the 5.7 the more I research it.
Just my humble opinion while I am excited to see what PSA comes up with next concerning the 5.7 category…
I can imagine either a JAKL upper w/ AR platform magazines (think CMMG AR style 5.7 magazines) for the “JAKL” 5.7 --OR-- an AR style upper that is an improvement on the Panzer AR57 ULT upper which will still utilize the the FN P90 50 rnd magazines and still eject the spent casing downwards. I would state there are pros/cons to either. From my perspective the JAKL upper would utilize vertical feeding magazines ejecting up and right still allowing plenty of top rail space on a monolithic upper. The mono upper would also be weightier up front which could arguably mitigate any muzzle rise except maybe on a full auto setting. An AR57 style upper utilizing the P90 magazines while losing top rail space could be mitigated with full rail space at the 3, 6 and 9 o’clock positions. Complete rail sections would provide more weight up front to help mitigate the minimal recoil however an M-LOK design could suffice for more personalities seeing as how you can add polymer or aluminum M-LOK sections for rail space and weight. As an added bonus the rounds feed downward allowing the ejection of spent cases to flow down, maybe only I see this as an added bonus. I can also see an extended platform of the ROCK style “pistol” into a 16" barrel config (think Kel-tec R50/CMR30) or a longer barreled “pistol” (ala Ruger LC Charger) accepting of a brace or a butt stock. If they went with a platform which would accept there current 23 rnd mags I believe the LC Charger style would probably be the ideal way to go. Again this is my humble opinion!
The only reason I say downward ejection is to easily collect brass for clean up and/or reloading. I’ve had thoughts towards an old magazine getting the feed lips lopped off, base plate removed and some kind of bag attached to the bottom.
Wilde Custom Gear - Universal Drop Leg Pistol Holster RMR Cut Out
This holster can custom fit (like a glove) and has an open bottom which will accommodate an attached suppressor while holstered. The provided velcro bottom strap barrier just has to be adjusted for the light to sit on.
I switched out the single point attachment with something very similar to the following link (just can’t remember the brand right now) to accomplish single point hip articulation.
I just got and shot a P50. I have a few gripes, but love it. It has noticeably more recoil than the Rock. I now understand how limiting the barrel length is for 5.7.
The TLR-9 seems ridiculously long, I’ll agree with you!!! One of the advantages of the TLR-9 is it accommodates a slender profile think PSA Rock or 1911 whereas the TLR-1 style I would argue is more suitable for a traditional double stack handgun which generally doesn’t have as long a frame or barrel. However on a PSA Rock it works out beautifully with a threaded barrel it’s an awesome length! Without a threaded barrel it sticks out approx. 1/2 - 3/4" past the frame. This has both advantages and disadvantages! Adantage…if you’re stuffing the muzzle end up against a…a…a target…then it will help keep the muzzle from being depressed preventing firing. Disadvantage…the muzzle blast of hot gases will scorch the top of your weapon mounted light. Remember a TLR-9 gives 1000 lumens so it’s not going to be the best inside a structure due to washout on lightly colored walls. If you’re concerned about the strength of the light and washout you could opt for a TLR-7 model which is only 500 lumens.
DISCLAIMER!!! The pic provided is of a PSA Rock w/a mounted TLR-10 which has the same width and length dimensions as the TLR-9 with the only exception being it has the added aiming laser on the bottom of the light. Sorry…I don’t have a pic of my Rock to share.
