ROOK Micro Compensator

Recently acquired a couple of the Micro ROOK Compensators for two of my Daggers with threaded barrels primarily to make using 115 grain ammo more enjoyable to use for target practice. They were recommended by a knowledgeable firearms instructor who has teen testing them out.

They only weigh less than 3/4 of an ounce and reportedly do not adversely affect cycling and significantly reduce perceived recoil. They are described by the manufacture as follows:

“he Armaspec Rook Micro Comp was created to address recoil and muzzle control without compromising on weight or size. Its design is slightly longer than a regular thread protector with slotted gas ports for effective recoil reduction. Its compactness and minimal weight ensure little to no visibility under concealed carry clothing, setting it apart from other options. With user-friendly wrench flats for easy installation, this comp offers great value, offering compatibility with various holsters and impressive recoil management in a compact, lightweight package. The ROOK is an excellent choice to enhance your pistol.”

Looking forward to trying them out myself.

I have seen similar comps with multiple ports and I still am curious how they can help reduce recoil with ports nearly 360 degrees around? I have a comp on a Dagger that only has a single up facing port and the recoil reduction is not super noticeable running std loads.
Does it matter how you orient the three port style?

Near as I can tell it doesn’t matter. I wondered the same thing. I plan to use the rubber washer which comes with the Dagger thread protector which give a slight degree of adjustment flexibility.

The instructor provided some additional information:
I installed both the Rook and the Pawn onto a variety of threaded Glock barrels and threaded Dagger barrels.

The orientation always ends up the same, so this is not something that is easily changed. I don’t use a crush washer, and while they recommend blue Loctite, which I believe is listed on the label, I have been able to get away with only hand tightening.

With having fired 115 grain Magtech, 124 grain Magtech, 124 grain S&B, 124 grain Blackround (Switzerland), and 85 grain Norma, I have noticed the biggest difference with taming the Magtech ammo, which I personally find to be the most snappy out of the group…bringing it down to a most enjoyable level.

I was curious enough to pick up a micro comp from True Precision during the Black Friday sale. This one is a three port. The ports are oriented at 3,12, and 9 o’clock, the bottom is solid. This is their Y model. I have a Dagger with a single port Herrington Arms Dagger comp and some Daggers with only a thread protector so I will shoot them back to back to see if there is a perceptible difference. I’m not expecting much but I like the look of the pistol with a comp on it vs a thread protector so there’s that.
