Howdy, all. Got a 104 waiting on F1 and been daydreaming about how I want to make it fit me. Really liking the RSR handguards but they explicitly state they don’t fit PSA because of the end cap. Found the article linked below that gives me hope. Anyone have firsthand experience making this work or something similar?
Can’t answer your question, but if you end up going a different direction the SLR handguards will work with zero modification. Have one on my 103.
As far as the front handguard retainer, I had to do a lot of filing to get wood furniture to fit also, semi-annoying those little non-standardish things.
On your suggestion, I looked into SLR and I’m really digging the ION floated style. I think the 9" would be perfect on it. I certainly don’t mind a little filing and fitting; I fit an apex barrel to my M&P9 and taught myself just enough welding and cutting to make a sten mk2 kit go bang, but that was when I had more time for me. Now, the prospect of a drop-in solution is far more tempting.
Thanks for the lead!
Now…any suggestions on a 4.5mm stock? For some reason, my heart wants a triangle, despite my shoulder’s protests.
If you like filing, I’ve got great news!
I have a 4.5mm Polish NOS one on mine, you need to reduce the circumference of the hinge pin down a little (drill and sandpaper, pretty easy) and file the area where the latch locks in when the stock is open to get it to fit (easy too, just have to be patient).
Yeah, I know it may not be “correct”, but that just looks sexy to my eye.
How do you like the gas tube mount for the optic? I’ve used a TWS dog leg rail on an arsenal slr104fr with a spare Burris FF i had lying around and it has reliably been my most consistently zeroed (non-bolt action) rifle to date. Even took a turkey with it this spring when we surprised each other in the field.
This has gotten on a bit of a tangent from original post, but I really appreciate the feedback.
It’s fine but a little too far out front for me given I mostly have ARs, just not really used to it. Going to go to an RS Regulate mount with prism down the road. The TWS looks cool, but I like the KNS rear sight and shooting with the irons.
And yeah, that triangle stock isn’t correct but I think it looks cool. Aesthetics matter.
Buy what you LIKE. if you want the RS Regulate 10 inch…get it.
Don’t be afraid of a little minor fitting. Just as the previous members posted most handguard s and accessories require a little bit of
“hand fitting”. A little use of a file and some sand paper will get you “Perfection”. The AK is NOT a mil-spec standardized like the AR. Each Builder varies slightly from the others……so if you learn how to “hand fit” your parts……your going to be happier and you will have the tremendous satisfaction of accomplishment (Pride) in doing it yourself. Try to avoid the use of a dremel tool. They can remove a lot of material very quickly with very little effort……and once removed…you almost cannot replace it. The minor use of a file and sand paper will in most cases get you what you need. God Speed with your build !
