Sabre 10A1 - shooting suppressed with supersonic rounds - Feed issue (Overgassed)

Hello all, I have a pretty new 10A1 sabre in 308. I’ve tried adjusting the gas block down, but it’s mushy and there’s no real tactile feedback so it’s hard to say where it’s adjusted to (like how many “clicks”, etc.) Anyways, I have an Enticer S suppressor on it and it’s still ejecting at about 1 to mostly 2 o’clock and hammering/denting the case mouth like it’s way overgassed. (It shoots fine unsuppressed)

Has anyone had similar issues shooting the 10A1 suppressed and what did you do to tune it up? (I”m using mostly 147gr Igman .308 ammo right now due to having a lot of it…)

With adjustable gas blocks i usually start all the way closed and then open up until it is reliable. If you are ejecting brass at 1-2 it sounds like you have it all the way open.

I would get it tuned without the can to begin with and then adjust with the can on.

She shoots great without the can, even with the gas restricted some. I have closed it a few complete turns but there’s no clicks or tactile feedback to tell me where I am….I will go all the way and then back open little by little, I have not done that!

I always start closed and to me that seems the easiest way to do it.

Happened to me today. Had the rifle for about a year and im having the exact same issue…Brass ejecting at 1 o’clock or smashing the spent round as it tries to exit.

Just read an article that advised the buffer is most likely taking a beating from the gas port being wide open as well. Ill crack mine open today and verify.

shooting 168gr AAC…shoots great unsuppressed but have had to adjust the gas depending on which suppressor I have on it. Rifle might be dirty as well, havent cleaned it in a year so that could be a factor.

I think ill need to redo the gas settings like mentioned above now that I have found the right ammo it likes and add in a heavier buffer as well.

Can you report and lmk how it goes? I’ve shelved it for now and will shoot unsuppressed (ouch).

im interested to find out the answers here. so im following along. thanks.

OK, just getting around to an update. Because so many said they’d tried a heavier buffer I went that route. After asking PSA support, they recommended I shoot suppressed w/ subsonic rounds only…not really what I want to do and lose all the ballistic advantages of .308. They also recommended the H2 buffer. I bought the H2 from PSA as recommended by support for the Sabre S5 buffer tube or whatever whatever my 10A1 is spec’d with.

Well, that buffer is too long and the bolt cannot physically travel backwards enough to engage the bolt hold-open…also introduced feed issues of course. Not sure why this is so hard to name the right part…oh well, to the parts bin with the H2. I am going to source a heavier buffer that is apparently “carbine length” (?) to have at the range next time for immediate testing, although I will start with the stock H1 I put back in for now and try with the gas block all the way closed.

TLDR: went down a rabbit hole with the heavier buffer and learned nothing. Should have started with the completely closed gas block but I feel like that’s also going nowhere fast. This might just be an unsuppressed platform. Stay tuned….

I’ve got this rifle
PSA Sabre AR-10 Rifle Billet 20" .308 Rifle w/ 12.5" Quad Rail, A1 Stock, Magpul Bi-Pod, 3 Mags, & Sabre Bag, FDE

SKU: 51655139825

on order right now. as soon as it comes in i can tell you what buffer it has in it to see if its the same as yours, and to see if its the same gun as yours all together.

i would think it has no problem being suppressed as that is what it is designed for.

Ok, wanted to close the loop for anyone still following…

I replaced the factory H carbine buffer with an H3 and also replaced the spring with a SpringCo orange (.308 extra power) per quite a few comments all over the web…cranked the AGB down to fully closed and started shooting.

At about 3-4 clicks out it fed reliably and locked back each time unsuppressed, maybe added one more click suppressed and it feeds/locks back nice now, no more issues. Brass looks better (no more banging it up and denting the case mouths) and is throwing pretty much a straight 3 o’clock.

Factory spring and buffer was just waaaaay too light and the tech line didn’t give any good advice…thanks mostly to Reddit and this forum. At the end of dialing my scope in a bit more, I put three rounds almost through the same hole at 100y. I think that was my sign to stop, wasn’t nothing getting better that day.:partying_face:

TLDR: If you’re having feed or lock back issues when shooting this gun suppressed, try an H2 or 3 buffer and a SpringCo orange spring.

Which buffer did you run ?

Thanks man !

No problem! That combo had an immediate fix for me, other than tweaking the AGB a little. I thought it might be overkill but it was spot on. I basically just had to choose any brand buffer because everyone’s out of stock of everything lol

Did you add a spacer for the shorter spring

I’ve just found a magnetic buffer system that tames anything, frytech mbs.
