Shotgun Upgrades

Work and health have me stressed out. Can’t sleep, decided to tinker with the shotgun a bit before I get ready and head into work. Better than just laying there awake…

The original stock was WAY too long, even more so with my boys. I put on a Hogue overmolded short, or youth stock. Nice, but a little short.

So I did what I should have done from the very beginning, install a Magpul stock that features adjustable length of pull.

I also added the Magpul receiver sling mount, and a GG&G front sling mount that sandwiches between the barrel and magazine tube.

That is why I went with the adjustable stock. My wife likes having it nearby too, so whoever may have to pick it up can easily have it t a comfortable length.

Its also been changed to all fde furniture, I just put it together with what I had until the right stock and grip came in.

I thought about going that route, but I did not want a pistol grip.

And my second issue is with the way the stock angles down, it looked to me like it would dig in to your shoulder more on that corner, rather than rest flat. It looked uncomfortable…No?

I actually think its pretty comfortable to shoot with the stock as long as its set to the right length. I’m normally not a fan of pistol grips on shotguns either, but I wanted it for the retention control. The sole purpose of this one is if someone comes into the house, and the fact that it might not be me holding it.

Did you have a hard time finding a Mossberg action tube, or did you already have one?

It took me a couple of months to find a new one where guys weren’t gouging you on the price. :-1:t3:

It came with it when I bought it. A friend bought what he thought was a shockwave, turned out to be a sawed-off. So he scrapped the barrel and sold me all the parts he had left. I found a new barrel, replaced the furniture and had everything cleaned and recoated.

Surprisingly, I walked into Sportsmans Warehouse and they had a few barrels and other parts on the shelf. Saved me a lot of money because people wanted $185+ online and I got it there for $100 minus my mil discount, (so basically I got it tax free).

I got action tube brand new from a shop in Missouri. I paid less than Mossberg wanted, which bcwas a fair price, and it was also less that half price of the too short, rusty ones on EBay with damaged threads and no nut.

Patience paid off.

Nope

Someone photoshop me an AR with the stock or brace at a -12° angle

I can’t get past that look, can’t understand how it’s remotely comfortable

I went with an ATI adjustable stock on a Charles Daly 301. It’s more comfortable than it looks.
The shotgun was inexpensive enough that I’m using it to practice some gun smithing - complete disassembly, trigger polishing, etc. The stock cost almost as much as the shotgun.

Who makes that shell holder? That’s the last piece I need for mine.

It came with the Mossberg when I purchased it in 2009. I’ll look and see if I still have it, and if so, I’ll send it to you.

Not to brag or anything but I snagged a used Mossberg 500 12ga 18.5” the other day $199 out the door. 30 minutes of cleaning and it’s a slick little piece. Taking it out to pattern it tomorrow. I’m going to replace the mag spring and I want to upgrade the bead sight. Any suggestions on relatively inexpensive sights and other upgrades? Good/bad experiences? I was thinking fiber optic for the sight.

Ive used a few different style sights before on shotguns. While I could physically tell the difference, it didnt really make much of a difference to me. If you’re planning on using it for a low light situation, I’d probably go with a fiber optic or night style sight.

Looks great! I’m just here to drool

Anyone have some suggestions for 590 forends? Is the forend the way to go for equipping a light?

Swap furniture for Magpul

You get Magpul quality, adjustable length of pull, and a forend with MLok slots.

That’s what I did to my Maverick 88
