How about warming up with torch gently and cooling tip of buffer retainer with can of air upside down and tap the crap out of it on a pine board kinda like a bullet puller.
yea if the spring didnât pop out in the oven then skip the heat and use a drill.. if you mess it up too much you could always grab one of these!

Water and some kind of detergent will work. (as your cleaning medium)
Do NOT just leave the lower in there, and keep an eye on the finish. Detergent thatâs sufficiently caustic (high pH) will strip/dissolve the anodizing.
I bought half dozen stripped lowers from PSA as soon as I heard Anderson was shutting down and selling their inventory to Ruger so I have spares. I plan to pick up an easy out today but as I said before Iâm not sure I have enough clearance. Weâll see.
you can get really small easy outs
Done gone full Rambo on it!
Determination right there boys ![]()
How can something so small be such a pain in the azz
@string1946
i know you said youâve tried needle nose pliers and can barely get htem on there, but have you tried needle nose vice grips? just a thought.
I donât think it will be horrible if you drill it out and get a little of the lowers metal in the process as long as the plunger still works and holds the buffer. In think @GuitarGuy had it at the start, try the ease out first but then drill it out.
No I havenât. Actually I donât think I knew such a thing existed.
No I donât think thatâs an issue at all. Really itâs not a function issue at all. I can just push the buffer back into the tube and close the upper and lower and go about my merry way. I wouldnât notice it until I opened it back up. At this point itâs a matter of principle. That little POS isnât going to beat me.
Absolutely!!
Itâs all about principal ![]()
i agree.. this is a good thread, keep us posted!

âHow much did you use?â
âJust EnoughâŚâ
I have seen those before but Iâm not sure they make a pair small enough to get into the space I have. You can see the top of the plunger in the small hole in the threaded section. And those scuff marks, a sharpie will take care of that.
I will. It will probably be a week or so before I can do much more. Dr. appointment today and packing the truck for a trip to our NC place tomorrow. Iâm retired and canât figure out when I had time to work.
